In THAT case, I feel like a multi-millionaire and I demand that the government sponsor me thusly!!!

[Oh, and I sometimes feel like the Queen of England. I demand that she share her house-keeping staff with me!]

We paid national insurance all our working lives, which supports health care & pension provision when we & our families are in need, & when we retire. We are not generally getting what others have paid for, though in practice our NI contributions aren't reserved for our personal needs but used as they are paid for the needy at the time. Present pensions are paid out of national income.
While I was working, I did contribute to 2 personal pension plans, & that money plus interest is contributing to my retirement income.

As for age, at 79 I am still playing tennis at club standard. When I went for my flu jab 2 weeks ago, I was asked if I was over 65. And when I was in Argos with my 40 y-o d-i-l, I was asked something to which I replied I would have to ask my wife. The cashier turned to Zoe :)

10 years ago I was much older than I am now, crippled with diabetic neuropathy & in almost constant pain. I had followed the professional health advice for a supposed healthy diet - complex carbohydrates & very low fat. I then took internet advice & cut out all the carbs, & increased my fat consumption. In 3 months I was free from pain & back on the tennis courts.

A few years ago I has a haircut and was charged less than I was expecting. I thought no more of it until I went back the next time and saw that there was a special deal for the over 65s.

There was only one problem.

I was 59 at the time. :Frown

I don't get a special deal at the local hairdresser - but I still have a full head of hair.

To me all young people look young. 25 to 35....they all look the same.

I am discovering that to young people all older people look old. 40 to 100 .... we all look the same.

I was given a senior discount when I was in my 40's. I know because, unlike the cashier struggling to count my change, I had learned to do simple math - I can even deal with a 20 dollar bill without taking off my shoes. :)
