A Fair Bailout Plan

1. The government buys up all of the MBS certificates.
2. Houses that are foreclosed or being foreclosed will be referred to a contract counseling agency. The agency will negotiate a contract at a low enough price and with friendly enough terms (a 40 year mortgage, for instance), so that the people can stay in their homes, and so that the government can be paid for its outlay.
3. Wall Street recoveries will be dealt out on a case by case basis.
4. Any fraud perpetrated will be prosecuted.

Why No Leaders With Good Ideas?

1. The really good ones with money and smarts (Iococca) are too smart to jump into that trap.

2. Historians never get elected to office, except Newt, but he was scarred by that awful name. I can hear it now, "Life ain't easy for a boy named Newt." (Now that was the original line in the Johnny Cash hit, but they thought "Newt" was too weird, so they changed it to "Sue.")

3. People with good ideas, character, dedication, patriotism, intelligence, education, and experience usually are missing money and social connections.

4. Many of my students have asked me, "Mr. Buntin, why don't you run for Congress?" I tell them the truth--I have to make a living, so I don't have time to run for office. (That and Mrs. B would kill me if I ran for office.)

5. People who get elected never listen to people like me. They listen to other people like them.

 

Let me assure you, unless you plan on moving to Borneo and working in a leper colony for no money at all, or climing a mountain with your AK 47 and a truckload of C-rations or MREs to hide out, you will be paying for this.
