Salty, this was exposed a few years ago in a book entitled Black Rednecks and White Liberals by Thomas Sowell. It turns out that scholars have easily traced the so-called "ebonics" as the language of the lower classes of Ireland, Scotland, and Great Britain who often were plantation overseers, etc. So what we have is Blacks speaking lower class White English and thinking that it is not a vestige of slavery but an actual language that they invented.
