Is this the reason why, when I was small, I was around an alcoholic and told mom, "He smells like donuts?"

I'm well aware that the term "well drunk" did not mean intoxicated. It never entered my mind. And the length of the celebration is irrelevant. Folks can get drunk at parties lasting an hour, or all week.

The important thing isn't the duration, but the decorum of the celebration. What kind of wine was served? Though "well drunk" doesn't mean intoxicated in John 5, "very drunk" means very intoxicated in 1 Sam. 25:36, and euphoria (or "buzz") is the symptom. It takes very little alcohol for most people to feel euphoric (one or two drinks), and if the same kind of wine was served in Cana, it's unreasonable to think that the festivities wouldn't have degenerated into something like Daytona Beach during spring break, especially if it went on for several days.

Especially since the main refreshment was wine.

I'm going to keep in mind the notes of the experts quoted in post #148. they are much more rational than the insistence that all wine was like the wine made today, and that there is only one way to make it.
