"I believe that just a man who has sinned trusts with the greatest difficulty in the mercy of God, so the sin which lies heavily upon him as a burden forces him to despair and he is prone to think much more about the wrath than the mercy of God. On the other hand, before he has sinned he is prone to think much more abot mercy than wrath. Man does everything the wrong way. He is afraid when he should not be afraid but hopeful, that is, after he has sinned. Beofre he has sinned he is confident, when he should not be confident but afraid."

    Martin Luther
    (Career of the Reformer I
    Luther's Works American Edition)

    Can anyone relate?

Makes sense, I suppose. We should be wary of our sinful nature at all times is there with us. We should be afraid of that, or more importantly, self-aware and trusting in God's strength to resist temptation and trusting in God's mercy to forgive when we fail.

    To Ben W

    Amen brother!
I am currently reading "Career of the Reformer I" which is volume 31 of Luther's Works, American Edition.
Luther had a superb grasp on the meaning of the Gospel.

He would most likely be told not to post on this section of the board anyway.
