The ACLU is threatening to sue a California school district after it changed a policy to require teenagers get parental consent to leave campus for confidential medical services.
The Vista Unified School District board voted unanimously Thursday to change its existing policy that allowed students to be excused for confidential appointments — including abortions — without notifying parents, according to the North County Times.

Oh I am highly offended with the ACLU!
If parents have custody of minors and are responsible for their welfare......then they should always be notified of a child's whereabouts and have rights to be informed before any medical or invasive procedure is done........ after all, they will be held responsible if any complications arise. Complications can arise....... and it may be as 'innocent' as an accident during an unauthorized transport, or as serious as an assaut and violation at an office for an exam.
If there's a problem with parental abuse and/or the child can't talk to his parents....... then two options exist...... getting a school counselor to help with parent child communications or the child can report it and expect an investigation which if alleged abuse is found can alter custody of the minor to another responsible adult.
The scary thing about all of this is that what happens in California seems to set precidents for other states or localities to copy. It is almost like California is the testing ground to see what the tolerance of the public will bear in its social experimentations.
