Jane Russell, 89, passed away Monday.

Los Angeles Times, December 11, 1949:

Jane Russell, film star, tells of her belief in active Christianity

Although in her case [conversion] came while she was still a child, she believes that to persons of mature years, conversion comes more slowly. Along this line, she said: "There has to be a definite time when you say 'I do' to the Lord"

It was God in Paul that turned him around. And it is Christ in you that makes you love your neighbor. After acceptance of Christ, one is a newborn babe, she said, explaining her ideas on how conversion to the Lord can become lasting. "Just as an infant at first cannot see, nor walk, but can feel, so the new Christian must first learn to see, then to walk"

Politics Daily, March 1, 2011, RIP Jane Russell: Lifelong Republican and Straight Shooter

In the 1950s, Russell, who considered herself evangelical or Pentecostal without belonging to a specific denomination, formed a female gospel quartet called the "Hollywood Christian Group" that came together after they met at a church social. Even as her star was rising, Russell held fast to her Christian faith, creating a weekly Bible study at her home for Christians in the film industry.

Insight on the News, March 11, 2002:

Today, at 80, she is active in conservative causes such as Phyllis Schlafly's Eagle Forum. Insight caught up with the world-famous Hollywood star when she was in Washington recently for the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

"My father was a Republican, and he couldn't stand what Franklin D. Roosevelt was doing to the country," she tells Insight. "I always say I'm a mean-spirited, narrow-minded, right-wing, conservative Christian. I start out with that, and if you don't like it, you can lump it. I am not politically correct."
