It's been quite a few years since I lived in that area, but if I remember correctly, Bala Cynwyd is only about 5 minutes by rail from 30th Street.

When I think of Bala Cynwyd, I think of City Line Avenue. That's not far at all. We used to go to the Adam's Mark once a week to hear my sister's band sing and you can see the art museum from the bottom of the hill (the art museum is across the river from the train station).

The story makes it sound like Amtrak kidnapped these passengers and carried them off into the wilderness somewhere, but once the problem was realized, it shouldn't have taken them more than fifteen or twenty minutes or so to get back on track, no pun intended.
