The following is an actual ad in today's Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

    Activist
Campaign Jobs To Help Elect Democrats
    $300.00 to $600.00 a week

Make a change in 2008. Work for Grassroots Campaigns Inc. on behalf of the National Democratic Party. F/T P/T Career. Pat (404)***-****

What a hoot! Having to hire ACTIVISTS. How disingenuous is that?

Not knowing much about American politics, I am just wondering if I have missed something here through being British. Please don't take this as criticism, Cutter, as it is certainly not intended to be, but is there anything that is particularly relevant to Baptists here?

From what I have observed, there is absolutely no connection between anything Holy and either political party. It is like the gap in the parable of Lazarus.

No, this probably should be moved to the 'Politics' section of the BB.

Maybe a Mod will come along and do just that. Sorry I placed it in the wrong category.

What if your first assignment was to be an activist against a Biblical principle, which politics can sometimes do?

On the surface it seems to me to be seeking people willing to sell their souls for a cause, whether they actually support the cause or not, they have a price, and that's their primary motive.

No need to apologize, Cutter - as I said, I only questioned it because I thought I might not have understood your post properly. Thanks, anyway.

Welcome to the real land of politics...Republicans do this too.

More reason why neither of the main parties get it, why there is desperate need for a third party option, and why evangelicals should stay as far away from politics as possible imho.:)

    Thanks for the thread!

How is the Democratic Party hiring Activists any different than the Salvation Army hiring Bell Ringers?

Does the Salvation Army make policies and pass laws? Does the Salvation Army have the influence of the Government?
The Salvation Army is made up of volunteers, not hirelings, but volunteers who actually believe in what they are doing and whom they are doing it for. A man that is hired to be an activist is being paid whether he believes in it or the party.

The Salvation Army must be different where you are. Here, they have their own brass bands. I have not heard of Salvation Army citadels with sets of bells - in fact the only group I know of to have peals of bells in their buildings are some of the parish churches of the Church of England.

Darnit-I thought these sort of things only happened in Berkeley, then I could add more to my case that CA should be another country of its own...

Paying volunteers is the same whether it's the Salvation Army or the Democratic Party.

I gather you've never been around a real campaign, right?

You are correct. I realize campaign workers are hired to fill certain roles within a campaign, but I did not realize that the Party actually hired "activists."
