Fox News: Obama signs directives aimed at gender pay gap

As President Obama ordered new changes for federal contractor compensation practices in a bid to boost transparency surrounding women's pay, his top spokesman defended the pay disparities that still exist between men and women working at the White House.

The president, during an event Tuesday at the White House, signed an executive order prohibiting federal contractors from retaliating against workers who discuss their pay. He also directed the Labor Department to issue new rules requiring federal contractors to provide compensation data that includes a breakdown by race and gender.

"Pay secrecy fosters discrimination," Obama said.

An analysis of staff salaries done last fall by the conservative American Enterprise Institute found the president's female aides were paid 88 cents for every dollar paid to men, about $65,000 to $73,729 annually. On Monday, Carney argued the comparison is based on aggregate wages that include the lowest salaries at the White House "which may or may not be -- depending on the institution -- filled by more women than men."

That's the same argument that is made against the non-existent "gender pay gap" as a whole. But at the White House, there are is a far more apparent and documented gender pay gap that cannot be made subject to the serious studies that prove that, otherwise, the "gender pay gap" is a myth.

Serious economists find that when you control for relevant differences between men and women, such as occupations, college majors, and length of time in workplace, the wage gap narrows to the point of vanishing. The 23-cent gap is simply the average difference between the earnings of men and women employed "full time." What is important is the "adjusted" wage gap -- the figure that controls for all the relevant variables.

The American Association of University Women last year employed researchers who looked at male and female college graduates one year after graduation. After controlling for several relevant factors, they found that the wage gap narrowed to only 6.6 cents. A U.S. Labor Department study done in the Little Marxist Dictator's first year in office showed that similar relevant factors as were included in the AAUW study resulted in a 4.4 to 7 cent gap.

Feminist groups attempt to explain those away by insisting, without support, that there remains "a significant, unexplained gap in men's and women's earnings." But again, they have nothing with which to refute either Labor or the AAUW, but they nonetheless try, and judging by the crowd of women behind the LMD this afternoon when he announced these EO's, they convinced him to once again ignore the truth and go with the politically expedient thing to do.

CBS Destroys White House Rhetoric on Gender Pay Gap

On Tuesday's CBS This Morning, White House correspondent Major Garrett completely dismantled President Obama's allegations of the supposed gender pay gap of women making 77 cents on the dollar compared to men, reporting: "The White House is getting...roughed up by hits own pay equity rhetoric."

Garrett used the administration's hypocrisy on the issue to fact check the false claims: "An analysis of White House salaries, which nobody here disputes, shows that the median income of female staffers is 88% of that of male staffers....Now, the White House said it's gender pay gap is tied to job experience, education, and hours worked, among other factors. This matters because those explanations, according to the Labor Department, explain a good deal of the gender pay gap nationally."

Garrett and Fox's Ed Henry have become pretty good friends over the few months. It started when Henry started scoring points with the liberal media over the revived Benghazi scandal. There was one day in September, around the one-year anniversary, that Henry was just plain ignored by Carney, so Garrett started asking Henry's questions. You could tell it really irked Carney.

I'm not sure any of the other WH correspondents are jumping on this story, but they will be if Garrett and Henry are on it.
