Good question, Roger! Yet another reason to tax all religious organizations, otherwise we are playing favorites in violation of the First Amendment.

While I feel for Bro. Reed's church, there are many mega-churches with huge campuses, all tax exempt.

The line has to be drawn when they pass out hate literature that advocates and praises murder.

Yes, I believe any place of worship should be exempt... This is the unfortanute part of "freedom"..

I view this as the fortunate part of freedom.

I don't think the govt. should have any say in how I worship, nor place restrictions on a pastor, to preach the Word of God. 501c3 places restrictions on both, and will get stricter. IMO

This is an excellent answer, and I'd like Roger to aknowledge it. If a baptist church advocated bombing abortion clinics, and killing nurses & doctors, I would want their tax-exempt status removed.

I realize he is very far away, so I'll be respectful and wait.

I don't know what to think. Who will decide where to draw the line when it comes to revoking tax exemption? Who decides if it is hatred or advocates violence? Might someone see the Bible as doing the same?

(That was quick - I just happened to check in while I watch Judge Judy :) )

I'd marry judge Judy if she was 30 years younger. I love her deeply. (Well, maybe not, Phyllis I hope won't read that)

"tis a slippery slope, indeed. Like I said, tax-exempt status was given to allow churches to carry out the great commission. Since we dropped that ball a long time ago.....

One more thought, when churches are persecuted, are we not commanded to rejoice ? Shouldn't we look forward to suffering for his sake ? We've had it awful easy for a long time.

Just what actions do Christians espouse that could be seen on the same level as what terrorists muslims do?

Please my friend, don't try to make my quote say something you know it doesn't mean.

The Old Testament is replete with "advocacy" of violence and cruelty as viewed by some. We are not talking about some Christian who knows God's word, but some lost government bureaucrat looking for an excuse to take away tax exempt status. If it is taken from a mosque than why not take it from a church?

Excellent - I am doing my devotions out of Acts at them moment. They certainly did not have tax exempt status and we don't see them crying about it - instead rejoicing in that they were counted worthy to share in His suffering.

    Great thought Bro Curtis

Reading thru the posts, I guess I could have been considered antagonistic, and that wasn't my intent, and I'm continuing to work on just being nice. But thanx for allowing me to challenge you.

Seen your posts long enough to know something of your heart - no offence taken by any means.

We only see the Christian faith in the Acts which was not viewed as a nationally recognized religion. In fact, in most places they had to hide to worship. What do we know of the other religions? We do know the Jews seem to have a close connection to the local government. Saul had no problem getting papers. But what about the myriad of other religions?

While I fully agree with this, should we not still fight against this persecution?

Sorry, missing the point here - Christians under Rome's rule had no legal protection of tax advantages, but they rejoiced and thrived. Why do American Christians think they deserve any different?
