    Hey folks...

When Anna Nichole Smith died, I got really upset at some of the things said about her by the Pastor of First Baptist Church of Mexia, TX in the news.

Well.. upset enough that I started a podcast show.

    www.bucketheadbaptist.com

Well... I've got a couple of shows in the can now... and I wanted to revisit the subject.

I'd appreciate anyone's input about not calling someone "one of our own" and "if people associate her with what Mexia is, I'm not proud of that."

Well... how's that look to young women who are caught in prostitution, pornography, drugs, abusive relationships... etc. etc. ?

To me, Anna Nichole was the epitome of the Prodigal Daughter... and the Pastor that said those things... well... use your imagination.

If you get a chance... please come listen.

To me... its the biggest example of why the Baptist church is in a real problem... it's got a lack of love.

    Steve

That's a tough sale. God only knows. It's a good thing we are not the judge.

Why do you think it's a tough sale?

Did you know she had pretty much cleaned up her life before her death?

Before the baby was born really.

It had been quite some time since she had been in a drug haze.

I hope you are right about her. Sadly I never saw any evidence that would make one assume she was born again. Praise the Lord we are all in Gods hands and it doesn't matter what we think.

    1) She was a human being who had a very troubled life. (kinda like a particular woman caught in adultery whom Christ was quite kind towards)

    2) A baptist minister said some uncomplimentary things about her. (kinda like those others who were there with Christ and the woman caught in adultery)

    3) We have someone who is saying she might have made things right before she passed...which all of us should hope is true.

    Is that enough reasons?

    Here's the exact quote:

"Anna Nicole is not somebody we consider one of our own, one of the great citizens we're proud of," said the Rev. Marcus Sheffield, pastor of First Baptist Church, who did not know Smith. "If people connect her with what Mexia is, I'm not proud of that."

You can read the entire article here:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/02/09/AR2007020902105.html

As a Southern Baptist who moved to a small town with a really legalistic (influenced by the stronger local Church of Christers) S. Baptist church... his statement really didn't give me a lot of warm fuzzies.

The poor, troubled woman is dead. We should let her rest in peace. Only God knows if she was saved or not, and we cannot help her now. The pastor should drop it.

The podcast is not about her ... its about the testimony of this particular Pastor... and how the Baptist church is failing to witness to the culture effectively.

If you can't evangelize the lost with love... you can't do it at all.

And apparently more than half the churches in America are doing just that... not at all.

Johnny Cash did more than many pastors in dealing with fellow entertainers about their spiritual lives and especially receiving Christ as Saviour.

He was, however, criticized by evangelicals because of some of his ways and means. There will always be those who can't see beyond their noses.

    Cheers,

    Jim

I meant spiritually speaking. We no longer have the opportunity to win her for Christ, unfortunately.

If the pastor has a bad testimony, I guess Matthew 18 would apply.

It's one thing for a christian to mess up and do something wrong, but it's entirely different for soemone to live continuously, believing it is alright because it's what you want, that person can not claim to be christian, as Christ has made no difference in their life. They have not been changed, their minds (what they believe to be right and wrong) have not been renewed. Either the person is a liar or God is.

    God is NOT a liar.

Ok. I'm done with my rant. :tonofbricks:
