Interesting Article! They seem to believe that they can replicate the Anti Deppressant nature of church just by people helping one another, yet I wonder if the study takes into account what happens to people when they are born again?

    Jesus is an anti-depressant!

John 15:11 These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.

    Actually, helping others is a
good anti-depressant -- even for unsaved
    people.

alot of people think Christians use their faith as a crutch. I say of course we do! We are the ones that realize we are not the goody two shoes the world thinks we are. We are the ones that know we were lost and on our way to a deserved hell. We are the ones that know there is NOTHING good in us.

So yes! To know that someone paid for all my misdeeds and shortcommings(sin), and is allowing me to live in paradise forever, is definately an anti-depressant...

I think unsaved helping each other tapps into the will of most people to do something good. I believe the experience can be maximized only by becomming a Christian.

Blackbird overheard Dr. Bob and his physical doctor talkin' one day----

    Dr. Bob--"Doc! I have a problem!"

    Doctor--"What is it, Bob??"

    Dr. Bob--"Doc! I snore!"

Doctor--"You snore?? Does it bother your wife??"

Dr. Bob--"Doctor! It bothers the whole congregation!!!" [IMG] [IMG]

    ok, Dr. Bob,
Have you ever been caught sleeping and given a GREAT awakening?

I remember one time a guest speaker came to the church I attended and the visting pastor saw a sleeping member. His snoring was interrupting the sermon. This pastor made his way to the calmly snoring man, he gently woke him up and escorted him to the pulpit, where he continued to preach the sermon, knowing it wouldn't be interrupted by the sound of snoring.

I suspect it isn't the serving people thats an antidepressant, but the God being served.

DonnA---if ever you posted a "straight truth"---you did it here, Sister!

    Thanks!

I preached yesterday from John 9:1-7---of the man born blind---Jesus and His disciples walkin' up to this man

    Disciples have a question

"Who sinned---his momma or daddy---that he should be like this??"

    Jesus had an answer

"Neither--but that the works of God should be made manifested . . . I have come to work the works of God"

See! The disciples--upon close examination---saw a disfunctional family---but Jesus saw an opportunity to join the Father in work!

Jesus didn't obligate Himself to be that blind man's servant---Jesus never once said "I'm here to do what that blind man wants me to do!" Jesus obligated Himself to be His Father's servant!

Jesus' obligation was to His Father---He said over and over in the gospels---"I'm here to do what My Father wants Me to do!"

Thanks for your post---have a good day!

    Brother David

Hey, it works for me! Every Sunday after church I feel so refreshed and ready for the week. Of course by Friday I'm in bad need of Sunday again.

When Iam in a bad mood,Depressed etc I ask in the name of Jesus to send the comforter into my heart and automatically i feel better...

All we need is Christ Jesus to deal with the stress of life- No drugs in the world or alcohol can bring the peace and joy the Lord Jesus brings in blessings and the bliss of the Holy Spirit!!!!!!!!!

I do feel much better, refreshed and anew when I leave church!. sometimes I have to be reminded that JESUS said---take off your yoke because yours is heavy and take on my yoke because it is light--I am paraphrasing of course. What these worldly people do not know or wish to accept is that man is a spirit being and what his spirit needs is to attach it self to another Spirit for sustanace and nourishment, guidance etc., and that SPIRIT is GOD ---Oh what a wonderful GOD we serve!!!.
