    God controls the weather.

    satan only controls what God allows him to. and that is only the thoughts and actions of the carnal mindset.

    satan is called the god of this world. this is a title only as it covers the carnal mindset. not actually "this physical world".

    this world and all its complex physics (which contain entropy) are "reflections" of the knowledge of spiritual death and decay. designed by God and controlled by God. including all the death and destruction that comes along within its functions.

    my suggestion if your in the path of a destructive storm..move out of its way.

    (God could be trying to teach you something. either you still have the opportunity to control your own physical destiny. or maybe you can try defying fate by "hunkerin down".) [IMG]

    Me2!!! I just noticed you live in Baton Rouge!!! This is great! I grew up in Baton Rouge! Being a native South Louisianian---through the years I have learned the process of "Hunkerin' down!" during a Hurricane storm----I've been through two rough ones(not countin' the little "Sissy" ones)----one in '65(Betsy) and the other in '95(Andrew) During Andrew we lost power for 7 days!

    The word from the Word says that "Creation groans"----Hurricanes are a natural process of that groaning! A natural occurance that develops between the months of June and October here in the Northern Hemisphere---you can just about "bank" on it-----the Sun comes out good and hot---warms up the Atlantic waters and a Thunderstorm develops off the coast of Africa---slowly progressing toward the west and as it progresses it builds in intensity with that counter-clockwise spiral. Hurricanes are not a punishment from God----if that were so---ummmmmmmm---who was God punishing before even the native Americans migrated to the North American shores??? Who was the devil trying to "get" when there was noone here to "get"---no, 'canes are not the Devil's tool----as Roger says above---just a natural occurance of weather patterns!!

    Blackbird,

    God may surely be in full control of hurricanes,

    but satan is in full control of traffic jams.

    when did officials start to evacuate millions of residences for hurricanes?

    I feel safer hunkerin down... [IMG]

    I want to give a testimony on this matter. I live in central Alabama. For two days prior to Ivan hitting we were warned on local telvision stations 24 hours a day that we were going to have terrible damage, even as far north as Birmingham, with hurricane force winds. The power company was trying to prepare everyone to expect at least 1-2 weeks without electricity. Everyone here was almost in panic mode grabbing everything off the store shelves. (As we typically do in Alabama when they mention snow, ice, hurricane, etc.) Anyway, I work at home doing medical transcription. I have three children and cannot afford to put all three in daycare because it took all of my paycheck just to pay for daycare when I worked outside of the home. I HAVE to work because my family could not pay the bills if I didn't. So, needless to say, I was terribly worried about the financial strain that 1-2 weeks without electricity would do to my family. We are already struggling BIG TIME as it is. Sooooooo,,, I prayed!!! I prayed!!! I prayed!!! And you know what? Over a million people in Alabama are still without power. They are all around me. But guess what? Glory to God Almighty I still have electricty!!!!! Nobody can ever convince me that God did not have a hand in this one. I worried about it for two weeks while tracking it. Then I saw it coming straight toward Alabama, and then hit Alabama's gulf coast, and then Thursday afternoon the center of the hurricane (the eye) passed directly over my town. My lights blinked twice, but only momentarily. I have cable internet, and it is still on too! God answers our prayers! He knows our needs! Praise God!!! Never doubt that God can affect anything on this earth. Everything happens according to His will!!!!

    Because of Christ,
    Deborah

    How about none of them. How about the hurricanes of late are man's fault for abusing the earth. Global warming and ect. We cannot blame anyone for these events except ourselves. When we stop abusing this planet and start treating it right these natural disaters will stop.

    Now Johnv, cook some brussel sprouts until tender. Drain. Add cherry tomatoes and toss in an Italian style clear dressing or oil and vinegar. Chill for about 4 hours and serve in colorful bowls as a salad. YUM

    Hurricanes? Yep they are from God unless you're into a conspiracy mindset and then they'd be the Republican's trying to wipe out all the Democrats in Florida before Nov. 2. [IMG]

    Lea, on the contrary. Scripture tells us these things will increase as the time nears for Christs return.

    HIV/AIDS Worldwide Statistics
    As of the end of 1997, an estimated 30.6 million people worldwide -- 29.5 million adults and 1.1 million children younger than 15 years -- were living with HIV/AIDS.

    Worldwide, approximately one in every 100 adults aged 15 to 49 is HIV-infected.

    An estimated 5.8 million new HIV infections occurred worldwide during 1997; that is, approximately 16,000 infectionseach day. More than 90 percent of these new infections occurred in developing countries.

    By the year 2000, an estimated 40 million people worldwide will be HIV-infected.
    Through 1997, cumulative HIV/AIDS-associated deaths worldwide numbered approximately11.7 million -- 9 million adults and 2.7 million children.

    In 1997 alone, HIV/AIDS-associated illnesses caused the deaths of about 2.3million people worldwide, including an estimated 460,000 children younger than 15 years.

    Since the beginning of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, approximately 8.2 million children younger than 15 years have been orphaned worldwide because of the premature deaths of HIV-infected parents.

    Jesus told us that pestilence will plague the world in this generation, and just as the other signs, will increase in frequency and intensity as we get closer to his return.

    1 out of every 6 persons in the world suffers from ACUTE HUNGER.

    1,000,000,000+ suffer from SERIOUS MALNUTRITION.
    The problem of world hunger grows WORSE each day.

    Yup it will. But, it's not God's work it's ours. He said he would not destory the Earth again that we would. And we are doing exactly that. It is getting to the end of times. But, we are dying by our own hand not that of God's. Satan has a very good presence in this world and he's doing everything in his power to make sure that he is not the only one in the Lake of Fire. It's sad you know?

    Rev. 21:1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Where in the Bible does it say man will destory the earth?
    God promised not to destory the earth in a flood again.
    Genesis 9:11 Thus I establish My covenant with you: Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth."
    Another aspect of deism is that God has set stuff in motion and is just sitting back and watching it all unfold. It's kinda similar to open theism, which is a heresy as well.
    If God does not intervene anymore than what do you do with Romans 8:28, which says, "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28 NASB)? If GOd works all things for good, than how can He do that is He never intervenes?
    If God does not intervene, than what do you do with the Scripture that says, in part, "...The intense prayer of the righteous is very powerful" (James 5:16b HCSB)? Our prayers aren't powerful if God is not answering them.
    By saying that God doesn't intervene anymore you are making some Scriptures to be untrue. And if a belief contradicts Scripture, than that automatically makes the belief false.
    To deal quickly with the Revelation passage, John writes, "I testify to everyone who hears the prophetic words of this book : If anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book . And if anyone takes away from the words of this prophetic book , God will take away his share of the tree of life and the holy city, written in this book " (Revelation 22:18-19 HCSB Emphasis Mine )
    This passage isn't speaking of the whole Bible, but of the book of Revelation. Hence why he says "This prophetic book" and "this book". I will agree that we shouldn't add to Scripture anything new. And I agree that God's full revelation of Himself is in Jesus Christ. But that doesn't mean He is just sitting back in heaven watching everything and not being actively involved. GOd is actively involved and we need to acknowledge that. When we don't give God His rightful place as Lord over all creation, than we will automatically put something else there. In your case, it's human free will. And when something else is where God should be, that is an idol. And idolatry is forbidden and sin (Exodus 20:3; Deuteronomy 5:7). Therefore believing that free will is in control of creation is sin.
    Yet look closely at the verse, God causes "all things to work together for good" Despite what bad stuff may well have happened God helps you pick up the pieces afterwards.
    For all of those that lost people in the Sep 11 attacks, God can help them get back on track, despite the horric bad stuff that has happened He still restores. What I am trying to say is that He makes good stuff come out of bad.
    The hurricanes are from God. The next logical question is "why is God sending them, or what is he saying?" There is not necessarily a clear answer to this question. The scriptures do say that "wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all unrighteousness". If hurricanes do not show God's wrath from the heavens, I can't think of what would. However, if the hurricanes are God's wrath, are they being poured out, or is God's wrath being poured out in a measured way? That is, is the wrath affecting most severely those who deserve it and less severely those who do not? It's hard to argue that the wrath is measured out in proportion to deserved judgement. For instance, why is Florida bearing the brunt and not another state? Is Florida more wicked than, for instance, Pennsylvania? If we searched through Florida, would we not find terrible sinners whose houses are unharmed and godly people whose property is destroyed.
    So, I think that there is a message from God via general revelation in the hurricanes. I am a God of wrath and here is an example of what wrath looks like. But, is God meting out justice through the hurricanes? No. As Pastor Larry said earlier in the thread, God sends the rain on the just and the unjust.
