Army Color guard no longer authorized

A Baptist church for years has had a special 4th of July service with an Army Color guard.

But not this year

Kind of ironic, when you stop to consider that George Washington required (not suggested, but REQUIRED) his officers to attend Sunday services.

This is really puzzling. I live in an Army town and cannot remember an official color guard ever participating in a religious service here. Why should the Army be expected to provide troops (who otherwise would be on their day off) for such a service? Doesn't the church have some veterans who would be happy to provide a color guard? Or perhaps a local American Legion or VFW?

And why is a Baptist church, of all things, expecting the government to provide such a service?

For some 40+ years I was with a BC in a city that was right next to a major Army base. One of our former members is now a 3-Star General who heads West Point.

Maybe it was up to the pastor to decide not have an active duty Army color guard on the stage....I don't know.

If a BC wants one, that's their call.

I'm a retired military person myself. The current church of which I've been with for 20+ years is in a different city about 50 miles from the above-mentioned one.

Neither of her two pastors/elders have ever put much focus on the military.

Maybe it's because neither one of them personally was in the military.

Would people here object if it were another religion? (I do not know how likely it would be that a mosque or Sikh temple would do this.)

My own opinion is similar to Rsr's.
