Noted long time broadcaster of things paranormal, Art Bell died Friday at the age of 72. His death brings back fond memories of listening to him during the long nights when my wife and I were long distance truck drivers back in the late 1990's and into the 2000's. He had the most interesting guests and topics, from UFO experts, to guests of all faith traditions, exorcists, scientists, anyone you could imagine.

I remember him one night when during a break he had a "near death" experience. He came back onto the air with quite a tale of what happened during the 15 minute off air time. It seems he was having some patio work going on right outside the door and it was a 2 foot drop down to the ground and he forgot that there was no step. He opened the door to go out for some fresh air and boom, right down he went, his head brushing against a piece of steel rebar that was sticking straight up.

All I can say is Godspeed Mr. Bell and at this point you know without a doubt what our journey here on earth is really all about.

With due respect to Mr. Bell - he was a little too far out for me.

The "Grays' were a little much for me, but I liked it when he had Professor Michio Kaku on, now he was one smart man.

I heard him some when I had insomnia. He was a lot better than his replacement George Noory. I quit listening about 2004 when he scared me to death with some occult stuff in the wee hours. People say that Bell was bright and personally friendly and compare him to Orson Welles. I only heard Noory a few times. I always wondered if Bell was into the occult?

No, I do not think that Mr. Bell was into the occult, he just had a thirst for topics that were way out there. I could not listen to the program the one time when he had people on who claimed to have sold their souls to the evil one. No, no, I was off the channel on that one. One of his most fascinating interviews however was when he had a Jesuit priest on who was an exorcist. Now hearing about saving souls from the evil one were shows I could handle.

I concur with your assessment about not being into the occult. I know because I have similar interests, I like to dig into these topics, and find where in the bible they are talked about, prophesied or whatever. Art Bell did similar. I also like Noory, I believe a good replacement for Art Bell, but despite Noory's likable, easy-going and knowledgeable nature, Art Bell had a personality all his own. He will be missed.

He had a easy going voice and his questions were really probing - a great interviewer for sure. I have lot's of stuff of his including many of those logo type pictures of him from his website, some of the best show's recordings, and some video of him and his wife on New Years Eve 2000. Do you remember all the hoopla leading up to that? I was listening to him when he came on the net a few years ago, but sadly that did not work out. George Noory is okay but I do not listen to terrestrial radio anymore, but Art being the original host was the real deal.
