Bank of America Draws Fire for Pulling U.S. Flags From Property

With a name like Bank of America, it was particularly surprising when a branch manager in South Carolina ordered the removal of a U.S. flag honoring a fallen soldier from the bank's property.

Brenda Earls of Gaffney, S.C., tried to honor her next-door neighbor, Marine Lance Cpl. Christopher Fowlkes, who was recently killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan, by planting flags along the route the casket would follow. But a Bank of America branch manager pulled the flags from the bank's property, citing "corporate policy.".............

.........But customers already have begun canceling their accounts in protest.

Earls and Cherokee County Council closed its account, costing the bank reportedly $500,000. If all city officials follow suit, it will cost the bank $1.5 million in deposits.

This is one thing that BofA should not be held accountable for. It was a single employee, who should be disciplined. Of course, there is plenty more to hold against them, along with Chase, AIG and others. The banks problems have hit the economy here in Charlotte particularly hard, since it is the HQ city of BofA, and was also for Wachovia before they went down and became part of Wells Fargo & Co.

I am here on a temporary assignment. If I really wanted it to, it could become permanent. But it would be a tough sale for them to make. Nothing against Charlotte...its a nice city...but it ain't Colorado.

Well, it's not summertime, either. It'll get a lot more humid in July, in Charlotte than it ever gets in Denver. The New England humidity had a lot to do with me moving west.

Yes, the air feels so thick and humid now even. Meanwhile, it was snowing earlier this week back at my house. Still, it gets me back to work, even if on a contract assignment. There is another natural occurrence here...hurricanes. I have lived through many in Texas, but the news here has been all over the 20th anniversary of when Hugo blew through here and tore Charlotte up pretty good...and the Atlantic is 200 miles away!

All these talk from you guys make me miss Western New York, Buffalo. In less than 30 days from now, it'll be really cool. Seldom had a humid day in my three years' stay there.
