I enjoyed this "banned book" as a kid growing up in the turbulant 60's.

Dalton Trumbo's "Johnny Got His Gun"

A WWI soldier looses his arms, legs, mouth, ears, and identification and ends up in hospital in France.

"Johnny tries to scream when he realizes what happened to him, but is unable."

Not great literature but it made for a great anti-war novel.
