BBC: Churches and Chapels in Wales 'May Unite'

"A conference in Aberystwyth will discuss the plans in response to declining funds and congregations. The event on Saturday, called The Gathering, brings together five denominations [Anglicans, Presbyterians, United Reformed, Methodists, and Baptists]."

They "could ultimately share bishops, ministers and buildings."

"If given the go-ahead, a new breed of bishops would be created and be interchangeable between all denominations in the united group."

"A spokeswoman for the Presbyterian Church of Wales said the plans were "quite new and quite radical". "All the denominations are realising we are getting smaller numbers but we do have strengths and resources remaining so it's a case of working out how best to use the resources," she said. "For example, in some towns you might have two churches and a chapel. They might have a vicar but no-one in the chapel. If the churches united, the vicar could also serve the chapel.""

What a bloody mess that will be! Does it say how they intend to intermesh doctrinal differences?

Look on the bright side. When they go through a plethora of splits they can organize as Anglicans, Presbyterians, United Reformed, Methodists, and Baptists.

What a bloomin' train wreck in waiting.

Where I live there are 3 RC churches combining and will be selling 2 of their buildings and related property. I can understand that. Besides the economy they are also dealing with the fallout of the sexual abuse cases against the RCC as a while.

I cannot imagine why someone would think it would be a good idea to do this across denominational lines.

Look at the "big picture" folks. A one-world church and one-world government come together, one step at a time.

True. In order for that to occur the Church has to be all but gone. That could be by rapture, by being underground, or by being made to be of no real consequence in society. The theories are varied but I think they would all fit into these three general categories.
