(Phoenix-AP) -- The president of the Southern Baptist
Convention says members should denounce sinful behavior and
proclaim Christianity as the true religion, ignoring critics who
    consider their faith bigoted.
The Reverend Jack Graham told Baptists meeting in Phoenix
that they should "penetrate the darkness of our culture" with
    Jesus's teachings.
He said people offended by those teachings make Baptists
"the national scapegoat" -- but he added, "we will not retreat or
    run from the battle."
Graham, who pastors the 21-thousand-member Prestonwood
Baptist Church in suburban Dallas, said these are "deadly times,"
with terrorism and new technologies like cloning threatening
    humanity.
Earlier Tuesday, President Bush addressed the Baptists by
videotape, saying he agrees with them "that marriage and family
    are sacred institutions."
