I liked this part:

Manly declared very distinctly that there is, "a deadlier foe than the Yankees--a war which demands and deserves the concentration of every man's powers, and which must be prosecuted with unanimous zeal, and with patient endurance to the--not bitter, but--glorious end." What is this war? It is "spiritual warfare." "[T]o halt on this side of Jordan, to leave to others the toils and the honors of these celestial victories, to sit still while the brethren go to war. I am afraid there are some of these in the [Christian] army," he exhorted.
