BB Ban on Human Sexuality Discussions Needs Amending

I agree with Aaron.
Having been here since 2002, from what I understand the issue is keeping this a "family friendly" forum and keeping human sexuality topics off the table.
Well, there are and have been numerous non-friendly hateful threads that I have seen and unfortunately/regretfully taken part in that - IMHO - cause FAR more problems than a dignified discussion on what the Bible says about human sexuality and how the church should act and react in certain situations.
There are serious topics that the church must address. And the discussion of what-to-do that best follows what Christ would have us do - again, IMHO - is a crucial discussion and affects our familes that we say we want to protect.
Protecting the family by not allowing Bible-based discussion of even difficults topics is not really protection to me.

I agree with Aaron on this one. We can trade off KJVO and Calvin threads to be banned. They are allowed constantly, with names called in those threads that make any sexual discussion look very mild. This is very similar to those who put sins on a pedestal in order from worst to least bad.
In addition, I agree with Scarlett that there are serious issues to be discussed in this area. Instead we go like hampsters in a circular cage debating issues that we as created beings will never understand like the mix of God's sovereignty and free will.

No "Trade-Off's" needed
I don't personally think we need to trade off anything to add human sexuality discussions to the table. All of these things are relevant to the discussions going on in the church TODAY...and while I detest some of the arguments that result from these discussions, they are things that need to be talked about. I just think that the rules need to EMPHATICALLY state that if you get UGLY or start name-calling your posts get deleted and you are (at least) removed from the discussion in progress. It does increase the level of moderation that would be required but we do need to be talking about these things. I myself have friends and family members whose lives have been touched and affected by the homosexuality/same-sex marriage issue, the calvinism issue AND the KJV issue. These are at least some of the "hot-button" issues of our day. They won't "ignore" us...so we shouldn't "ignore" them. Maybe we could have a seperate registration/password protection system for such threads by which the participants could be vetted based on pre-established conditions to be allowed to take part in the discussion. That would help guard the content and still allow non-posters to view the discourse for profit and instruction. The FILTER that ought to be applied to ANY of the discussions on the BB or anywhere else would be that which is found in Col.4:4,5&6 that instructs that our speech be always with GRACE. Titus 2:8 exhorts us to "sound speech" and finally...everything we say and do OUGHT to be a result of walking (and speaking) in the Spirit and displaying the "fruit of the Spirit" as found in Gal. 5:22 & 23. If....and I know that is a big IF...we could apply this kind of criteria to this forum then we could discuss anything that needs discussion. I hope we can. To the owners and moderators of this board I would say...YES..please do open it (the sexuality issues) up for discussion. These things are wreaking havoc in our churches and our families and we can't afford to ignore them. NOT discussing them here won't make them "go away". Amen or OhMe...whichever fits! :type:

One of the reasons
is the Board is spiderable by Google and others. So, we don;t want to show up on the results page. Then, there is the matter of advertising on the Board. It's automated and based on keywords. Think about the keywords involved and the advertising they would drive to this site.
Further, the ban applies to the public forums not the private ones.

Then why not make a private forum for sensitive, yet criticial topics. These topics, while dealing with sensitive subjects, don't necessarily imply that those discussing it have to be segregated by gender as our two private forums are.
In the limited threads of the women's private forum, we do - about half the time - discuss things of a very sensitive nature that I would NEVER discuss in front of a man and would think any women a nutcase who did discuss these things with a man.
But, this is not what we are talking about.
There are sensitive topics, such as how the church should react to and deal with a person who has undergone a surgically-altered gender-change, yet in later years comes to know Jesus as Savior. How should the church deal with this? Does the church require that they be medically reverted to their original gender? Live life as their new gender, but celibate? I use this because it's a true story.
If we had a private forum to discuss Bible-based answers to these ever growing cultural issues, then the administration could put all the regulations they wanted to. Maybe one would have to have a certain number of posts to be admitted, be invited by the administration, .... or whatever.
It's worth talking about it.

There used to be a private forum for "Members" some time ago, but some time ago it was deleted, but I do not know why.
