Ben Sasse for President

"On the topic that had you mad this weekend: No president - whether named Obama or Trump or Biden or AOC - has unilateral power to rewrite immigration law or to cut taxes or to raise taxes. This is because America doesn't have kings," Sasse wrote.

This is correct. The power of the purse belongs to Congress. No president has the right to usurp the role of Congress. Obama did it because he knew he would never gain Republican support. He was right. Trump is doing it because he knows he will never get Democrat support. He is also right. If we pay close attention what do we see? By and large we see Republicans cheering the President's actions. Sasse is a notable exception. Trump being Trump, what does he do when someone stands up to him? He attacks them. That is who he is. He called Sasse a RINO. Actually, Sasse is taking a strict constitutional stand. If he takes this stand when a Democrat is president he will be lauded for it.

What does this all mean? Politics is now just an exercise in pragmatism. You are no longer allowed to take a principled stand on an issue. If you criticize Trump about anything you are accused of supporting abortion and the moral decay of America. Just watch and listen to those who are all-in on Trump for 2020. You better have a thick hide if you criticize the man, even if you intend to vote for him, because you will be raked over the coals for sticking to your integrity.

 

The difference is that Obama tried to do things rhat the leftist minority wanted. Trump tries to do things that have to be done in a pandemic but that the House alone stopped. Trump is right and Obama had his orders reversed.
