"If she's qualified, I vote for her in a heartbeat. Such offices are positions of service, not rule."
This is bogus. The President makes appointments and presides over meetings. That is a little more than just "service" and that is just a way of excusing women into the roles. They are still over a man. By very definition, they are not eligible.

Unfortunately, the social justice movement is now driving the theology of the SBC. The Scripture is plain and clear. The ONLY way it can be stretched this far is viewing it through the lens of social justice.

I don't know that it's the only way, but it's probably a primary reason for the current discussion.

That being said, does anyone really think that electing a woman as president of the SBC wouldn't immediately be followed by a massive push to have female pastors/elders in the churches?

Two thoughts:
  1. Though the SBC is not a church, it certainly is an extension as well as all activities of the SBC reflect upon the local assembly.
  2. Because the local assemblies support with offerings to God, the SBC, the local assemblies are then inextricably aligned with the SBC and all activities.
Therefore, the SBC should be pastor/elder run, just as as all Bible based Baptist Churches.

I fought (what is now called social justice by some) decades ago.

I read on this thread some who approve women leadership because of a president from some time ago.

Such was wrong thinking (social justice) then, it is wrong even more so, now.
