When a young Birmingham college student's car broke down the night before he was supposed to start a new job, he didn't panic. At least not for long.

Instead, Walter Carr walked. From Homewood to Pelham. All night. In the dark. 20 miles or more.

Well done to him. But what of it?

On Christmas Eve 1813 preacher Samuel Eyles Pearce walked some miles into London, caught a stage to Maidstone, not a pleasant journey I would think, Then walked 26 miles, or so, to Faversham, preached twice the next day, three times the following day, it being the Lord's Day, then walked to Canterbury for the new year. 5 years later he founded the first Baptist Church in Faversham.

A pastor who lived in Sheerness is recorded as walking
23 miles each Sunday to his Church in the small village o f Egerton. Via Michelin makes it more than that;
