Book of Mormon is not Christian
Book of Mormon is Mormonism (or Preisthood, Holy Ghost..),
Jesus continue called another prophets (man),
    Priesthood, Holy Ghost, Baptism, family,
choice evil or good, test wicked, punched..etc..

I think Book of Mormon is almost destroy this book from Satan
and loss 116 pages (that a lot pages),
maybe Joseph Smith is guilt because if he rewrite on Book of Mormon
    before loss 116 pages.

Does a poll determine truth? Of those voting, how many have read the Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ? How could this great book preserved by God, to come forth in these times as a Second Witness for Christ be deemed "not Christian?" I challenge those of you who so claim this volume of scripture is not of God, to judge it by your own study and reading of it's text, and then following the admonition found in Moroni 10: 3-5.

By the way, could you reply to my question about John, and therefore the Bible, being wrong.

In case you haven't read the pole, most of us don't believe it's Christian. Believe it or not, some of those people who voted have possibly read the book.

With this in mind, you must realize that none of us are willing to follow the admonition in Moroni...for we don't believe in it.

    Respectfully,

    ~Lorelei

(I have a book of mormon on my shelf and I have read enough to know it is not of God.)

Another name for the book of Mormon could be:
"And it came to pass" This phrase is used at least every other verse. Its obvious that whatever man wrote the book of Mormon, was mimicking the King James Bible. If Joseph Smith supposedly interpreted the book in the 1800's why in the world is it written in Elizabethen English?
They didnt speak that way in America during that time period.

    The mimickry is, indeed, interesting.

Yes, I have read the Book of Mormon, which
    includes passages on water-witching and
which derides anyone who is not lily-white.
This is, indeed, a white man's gospel, for it
assails all who are not white men who follow
    the fake moroni.

How many of you ladies wish to spend your
eternity as one of some guy's harem, eternally
pregnant, and delivering his baby-gods? The
idea of mormon heaven is a man's heaven,
    not a woman's.

Joseph Smith had somewhat of an imagina-
tion, but it was not that good. The idea about
the Urim and Thummim helping him to read
the golden tablets was only mediocre, and
hiding them back in the hills before anyone
other than him could see them was sopho-
    moric.

The prejudices of Smith's day, however,
were interesting and certainly showed them-
selves in his book. See, when people who
were not white would accept his doctrine, they
would become white! What a prize! What a
gift! And it was not until just a few years ago
that the Mormon temple allowed black people
in or let black men be missionaries. This is
very interesting. Have any turned white yet?

I've had many tell me the way they know the Bible is the word of God is by the prophecies that were given and fulfilled. May I share with you a prophecy in 2 Nephi 29:3-14 And because my words shall hiss forth--many of the Gentiles shall say: A Bible! A Bible! We have got a Bible, and there cannot be any more Bible.. 4. But thus saith the Lord God: O fools, they shall have a Bible; and it shall proceed forth from the Jews, mine ancient covenant people. And what thank they the Jews for the Bible which they receive from them? Yea, what do the Gentiles mean? Do they remember the travails, and the labors, and the pains of the Jews, and their diligence unto me, in bringing forth salvation unto the Gentiles? ....6. Thou fool, that shall say: A Bible, we have got a Bible, and we need no more Bible. Have ye obtained a Bible save it were by the Jews? 7. Know ye not that there are more nations than one? Know ye not that I, the Lord your God, have created all men, and that I remember those who are uppon the isles of the sea; and that I rule in the heavens above and in the earth beneath; and I bring forth my word unto the children of men, yea, even upon all the nations of the earth? 8. Wherefore murmur ye, because that ye shall receive more of my word? Know ye not that the testimony of two nations is a witness unto you that I am God, that I remember one nation like unto another? Wherefore, I speak the same words unto one nation like unto another. and when the two nations shall run together the testimony of the two nations shall run together also. 9. And I do this that I may prove unto many that I am the same yesterday, today, and forever; and that I speak forth my words according to mine own pleasure. And because that I have spoken one word ye need not suppose that I cannot speak another; for my work is not yet finished; neither shall it be until the end of man, neither from that time henceforth and forever. 10. Wherefore, because that ye have a Bible ye need not suppose that it contains all my words, neither need ye suppose that I have not caused more to be written. 11. For I command all men, both in the east and in the west, and in the north, and in the south, and in the islands of the sea, that they shall write the words which I speak unto them; for out of the books which shall be written I will judge the world, every man according to their works, according to that which is written.............
Yes, I may be the only vote in favor of the Book of Mormon being another Witness for Jesus Christ.........and so reads the scripture in the Bible......."and few there be that find it." Truth, as stated before, is not determined by a poll, but the Spirit of God who testifies of truth! The Book of Mormon is the Word of God, a record of the early inhabitants of this the American continent, and God's dealings with them! It is a beautiful record preserved for our time, with simple and clarified truths of the gospel, even truths that were once recorded in the Bible but have been lost by the cunning divices of men in ancient times who changed the doctrine and the ordinances of the gospel for their own purpose and design!
Nothing is impossibe when God is at the helm and is in control of His Church, and who desires to bless His children.......but just as the Children of Israel in their unbelief would not allow many of the promised blessings to be received......so we see it to be so today! Unbelief is a stumbling stone in finding truth! [IMG] Peace be unto you! [IMG]

Abiyah, sweet is the peace the gospel brings to believing minds.......you've made some serious error in your understanding of Church doctrine.....the sources from which you have learned are obviously enemies of the Church, who have carried such wild tales down through the ages of time since Joseph first revealed to the world his vision and testimony of God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ who came to restore all things pertaining to the gospel of Jesus Christ to the earth! It is a hard message for some to accept, for it runs counter to so many Traditions, traditions of modern christianity.......so much confusion in religion is the very thing that sent young Joseph into the grove of trees to pray, little did he realize the great burden of responsibility that would become his, and that he would give his life in testimony of the divine truths he proclaimed to the world......... The Book of Mormon was written by Solomon Spalding - a Baptist minister living in the 18th century. He was writing a fictional tale in the same vein as "Pilgrim's Progress".

As such - the Book of Mormon affirms basic Baptist doctrine - regarding hell, polygamy, Believers baptism, no chance for salvation after death etc.

It is opposed to most of the distinctives of Mormonism and was published by Joseph Smith before the doctrines of Mormonism were conceived and published by Joseph Smith in "Doctrines and Covenants" and "The Pearl of Great Price".

The fact that Mormon doctrine does not come from the book of Mormon is one of the best kept secrets of Mormonism.

The fact that these high school graduates can come to your door and hand you a Baptist document that refutes Mormonism - and so few people "get it" is downright amazing!

    In Christ,

    Bob

What rational reason do you have for a basis of your belief. The Bible is full of prophecies; that is true. Not one of them has ever failed. There is no contradiction in the Bible. Fulfilled prophecy is just one evidence or characteristic of the Bible being God's revelation to mankind. The Bible was God's final revelation to mankind. There was no further revelation after the the Book of Revelation was written and the canon of Scripture was thus closed. In Rev.22:18, it says that "if any man shall add unto these things, that God shall add unto him all the plagues that are written in this book." One is not to add to the Word of God, and that is precisely what the Mormons have done.

Any Sacred book would be a book, as others have pointed out, without plagiarism, and without error. One glaring example is the Book of Mormon having the birth of Christ in Jerusalem, when it is an established historical fact that he was born in Bethlehem. How can you call the Book of Mormon God's Word, when you have such glaring errors such as that in it? Most of it is entirely fictional and historically inaccurate.

In 1Nephi 2:5-8, the river Laman empties into the Red Sea. Yet there has never been any river in Arabiah at all that emptied into the Red Sea, not in historic nor prehistoric times.
Helamen 14:20,29 states that darkness covered the whole earth for three days at the time of the death of Christ. It wasn't three days; it was three hours.
Gleason Archer in his book, "A Survey of the Old Testament," details five pages of such inaccuracies in the Book of Mormon. It is a fraud, a forgery, one of Satan's many masterpieces. If it was the Word of God, it would not contain such obvious mistakes.

Jesus said in John 8:44, Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar and the father of it."

Yes Satan does have his children still on earth. All who do not know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour are children of the devil. If Jesus Christ be not the one and only Lord and God of all, the only one who can save you by his sacrifice on the cross, then there is no salvation. Joseph Smith was a deceived man. To follow him is to follow a false prophet. Follow Christ instead. He alone can save.

Fairy tales--it is! The book of Morman's "And it came to pass"--statements should read "Once upon a time." A bunch of men behind the barn somewhere smokin' wacky weed--writing about "Days gone by" and their boyhood adventures along the lines of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn would be more believeable. But good folks are falling for it by the droves!

I will let the Book of Mormon stand on it's own merits.....it is quite obvious from the posts written no one knows what the Book of Mormon is, nor do they want to know, so they will never know! And the prophecy given regarding those who make their false claims of the Bible being sufficient and all of God's Word.....is testimony will stand in judgement, as spoken in 2 Nephi.

Mr. Spaulding made an attempt, poor as it was, to discredit the Book of Mormon, but he has been proven a fraud! The Book of Mormon is a powerful testimony that Jesus is the Christ.....if you missed that message in your reading, you didn't read the Book of Mormon. It will stand as a testimony of truth, regardless of the vile accusations made against it......it has survived many attacks, and isn't it wonderful how many are enjoying the beautiful truths it contains.......deceived?? .....I don't think so! And the world will yet receive many testimonies of it's truthfulness, and the blind who have been led astray by those who are impassioned by their own inadequacies and knowledge, yet seek to destroy that which is more good to the world, have their own reward and we seek no quarrel or debate with anyone so inclined! To those who seek truth, driven by their desire to know will seek out a copy of the Book of Mormon, and in the quiet stillness of their surroundings, take it to the Lord, after reading it and ask Him if it be true.......but a sincere reading of the entire text certainly would be the first evidence of sincerity! May God so soften the hearts of those who truly love Him, that they might come to KNOW Him! [IMG] ;) :

Solomon Spaulding was a Baptist minister - so obviously his book (The Book of Mormon) of "Pilgrims Progress" fiction would teach that Jesus is the Christ - just as we see in God's Word - the Bible.

And by the way - Spaulding died before Joseph Smith got his hands on Spaulding's manuscripts.

That is not a "new teaching" by any stretch - nor can it be argued that Christianity was not already teaching that.

In fact - it is hard to find ANY docrine in the book of Mormon that Christianity was not already teaching JUST as it is hard to find ANY support in the book of Mormon for the distinctive teachings of the Mormon church as defined in Doctrines and Covenants and Pearl of Great price.

That remains the best kept secret in Mormonism today.

    IN Christ,

    Bob

    Lookbeyond --

I have read the book. In fact, it is probably
still in my house, behind the books on the
bookshelf, hidden away with my copy of the
JW bible, the supposed "forgotten books of
the Bible," the Karan, and any other book I
would not leave out and available to anyone
going through our library. I keep them for
    reference purposes.

I asked you in a previous post what I had said
that was untrue, and you could not or would
not respond. I think that you could not respond,
because what I said was true and verifiable.

I hope that no one on this board intends to
pick on you, in spite of the fact that you tend
to pick on others. I just find it pitiable that you
have swallowed the lines. I take it that you are
very young. Were you raised in this doctrine?

Years ago, when I was a young woman, a couple
of the Mormon missionaries dropped in on me.
I was not versed enough in the Bible to know that
I should not invite them into my house. They
left me a Book of Mormon, which I declined to
buy, to just read and said they would be back the
next week. I read the book, and I went to the local
library to learn Mormon history. When they
returned, I had three typed pages of facts and
questions to talk about. They actually agreed
with al the facts I had written down, some of
which were horrifying. But they did not have
the knowledge to answer the questions regard-
ing the unbiblical beliefs. They left frustrated
and did not return for their set appointment,
    although I waited for them.

More recently, I had some young men stop by
again. I did not have the same questions and
facts, but the young men werre soon uncom-
fortable, because they did not have the
answers for the things in the Bible. Rather,
they went by feelings and things they had
seen which they supposed to be miraculous.

Well, feelings fail, and the miraculous can
often be explained by natural circumstances.
    But the Bible stands.

Yes, I read your book. I found it to be--well,
let's just say it is no testimony of our Lord.
One of the things you might want to check out,
although it has been a long time since I read it,
is the people and peoples named in the book,
if I remember correctly. There is no encyclo-
pedic evidence that they ever existed.

The book just has too many falacies, too many
things that contradict the Bible, too much
obvious prejudice against anyone not lily
    white, etc.

Here's the thing, Lookbeyond. Our God is
REAL. He stands when al other things and
people fail. When your faith is ripped to
shreds, He will be there. When all the things
you trusted crumble like dust, He will be
there. He is faithful. He is just. He looks on
your heart and He knows if you are searching
for the Truth or if you would rather be satis-
fied with myths. And no matter what your
choice is, He loves you still.

Lookbeyond, our Lord looks at you and sees
your potential for His kingdom. You are
zealous. He can use such zeal in His kingdom
if you would turn your heart toward Him and the
Truth. I think you would be a valuable asset
for Him if you would seek Truth and hold on to
it. I encourage you to do so. In the meantime,
    I am praying for you.

    Abiyah
