    Hi Everyone!

I was visiting Youtube.com and came across a very interesting use of a banjo in an unusual setting: Brazilian Bossa Nova.

The banjo player is Mercedes Lander and she also has a wonderful singing voice. Here's the link to her Youtube page: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZENFyRhxC4

    Then, there's Scott Feiner: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zmm9QQCZ1po
I've taken some lessons at a pandeiro workshop from him in NYC last year. And I was at his CD release party at the SMOKE Jazz Club in NYC. (Ironic, since indoor smoking has been banned in "Bloomberg Land") Like Mercedes, he's using a Brazilian instrument to play in an American jazz context. Usually, the pandeiro is used in samba, choro, bossa nova, etc.

    Enjoy!

    In Christ,

    Dale
