That's right!

No that's not right, God ordained us to care for the poor which is wealth redistribution. Look at the early Church in Acts if you don't believe me. We can't keep saying, "well that was different"... No, that was God's Church.

Remember the woman with the alabaster box of very precious ointment? What did they say when she anointed his head, "For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor". Jesus didn't say that it was a bad idea to redistribute her wealth by selling her ointment and giving the proceeds to the poor, he simply said you will always have the poor but you won't always have me. IOW... You can do that another time but this is for me.

The only example of forced wealth redistribution I can find in scripture, is the master taking the talent from the lazy guy and giving it to the successful thrifty guy.

How about Christ and the rich young man whom he told to sell all and give it to the poor?

I'll answer your question when I see you admit you were way wrong about the Shenandoah. Can't debate one who twists facts like you have on this thread.

I'll be checking......

OK, since you won't correct your mistake, I have zero reason to believe ANYTHING you post here has been researched or that you even care about simple truth.

Shame on you, Crabtownboy.

I wonder how many who claim the verse about the rich young ruler have gone and sold all that they have and gave it to the poor.

That verse has nothing to do with charity and man's obligation to his brother. Why don't we use the Good Samaritan if we're going to use a parable.

I've been busying getting life back to some normalicy old buddy. Go away for three to six months and it take a bit of doing to get life going at home again.

In your OP were you talking about the Shenandoah Valley, the Shenandoah River or the Shenandoah National Park? I assumed, probably incorrectly, that you were talking about the Shenandoah National Park. The Shenandoah National Park is entirely in Virginia beginning in the north at Front Royal and ending on the mountain top between Charlottesville and Waynesboro, VA. The Skyline Drive that runs the length of the Shenandoah National Park ends where the Blue Ridge Parkway begins.

The North Fork of the Shenandoah River comes out of West Virginia passing Fulks Run and passing through the narrow opening at Chimney Rock. The South Fork of the Shenandoah River is entirely in Virginia and joins the North Fork at Front Royal, Virginia.

Oh, and now you can answer my question.

The Shenandoah River than continues on to Harpers Ferry, WV where it joins the Potomac River. Geographically the Shenandoah Valley is almost entirely in Virginia, but a small portion is in West Virginia. Culturally the Shenandoah Valley includes a larger geographic territory.

If you are saying the mountains around Harpers Ferry are not scarred by strip mining that is correct. There is no coal in them. However, if you go into the coal mining regions of West Virginia the mountains are very scarred, destroyed is a more accurate term.

I said I camped extensively in the Shenandoah in W.V., and you pretty much called me a liar. That was like 3 days ago. You've had posts since then. Stop yer whining.

I will answer your question soon. Keep checking.

And in the mean time, can you answer if you've sold everything you have and given it to the poor.

Posted by me in another thread....

Another thing that irks me is the constant misapplication of Christ's admonishments to people concerning the poor. Anyone who studies the New Testament knows how badly the Jewish religious authorities in Roman Israel treated the poor, & the lepers, mocking how much they gave or didn't give, and not even letting the lepers in the church. Some supposedly Bible-drilled people here try and tell me that lesson is strictly for American conservatives. It's a shamefully myopic view of scripture.

Edited to add...

CTB, have you sold everything you have and given it to the poor ? Or is that for American conservatives as well ?

Old buddy, where inn WV did you camp. There is a Shenandoah, WV ... a very small place south of Martinsburg. And as I said in my answer to you that a small part of the Shenandoah Valley does extend into WV. What was the name of the place you camped? Were you at Harpers Ferry? Martinsburg? Charlestown?

I guess you didn't see my reply about the Valley and the River.

You must have quite an inferiority complex to think I was calling you a liar. If I ever accuse you or anyone of being a liar you will know, there will be no doubt about it. I do not, like some I could mention, use such terms lightly or for no reason.

And you didn't answer my question ... again just trying to blow smoke to move away from your unfounded statement.

Bye.

It was 16 years ago. I don't remember where we camped, but I do remember that we didn't have to pay until we got on the highway that goes thru the State Park. That's probably where you are talking about ? I didn't like to pay to camp anywhere, back then. I know when we were dropped off we were in West Virginia. That is not a lie. We were picked up at a Ranger Visitor Center, I believe.

And why would you feel I have an inferiority complex around you ?

And how did I not answer your question ?

Have you sold everything you own and given it to the poor ? I say you don't have to. I say that was a personal challenge, not one to any government. If you differ, I suppose you must be collecting returnable bottles to afford yer ISP bills......

Or it's a really cheap way to cop out. I don't blame you. Make me the geographical liar, and you can skate on an excellent challenge.

Like I said, Old Buddy, if I ever call you a liar you will know it. There will be no doubt about it.

To feel that someone is calling you a liar simply because of a geographical statement shows a degree of an inferiority complex. Thus the hostility and extreme retort is made ... or maybe you simply hold a lot of anger within yourself. [This is not a criticism, just an observation from reading your posts, both to me and to others.]

I simply said, that the Sheanandoah is in Virginia. As I explained in a later post I thought you were speaking of the Shenandoah National Park ... which is totally within Virginia.

So if you were in the Shenandoah Valley in WV you were in an area near Harpers Ferry and Martinsburg. A small portion of the Valley extends into WV in that region.

It is beautiful country and I hope you visited Harpers Ferry. It is a very interesting and historic town, i.e. John Brown, Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson and the Nigara Movement in the early 20th century.

It was beautiful. I wish I could find the pictures. We also visted D.C. & Gettysburg, on that vacation. I couldn't tell you any of the places we camped.

I hope you can come out here, some day. Like I said, real mountains. In May, when the wildflowers come out and there's still lots of snow on the peaks, it's pretty amazing.

Now, I don't know how we got here, talking about stewardship of the Earth, but do I look forward to the next time you throw out "How about Christ and the rich young man whom he told to sell all and give it to the poor?"

Something kept bothering me about the location of 'Shenandoah'. On my Rand McNally it shows the Shenandoah Mountains in West Virginia, while I, when driving the I-81, thought I'd passed through part of what was referred to as 'Shenandoah' in Va.: Just east of Harrisonburg, Va., is the town of Shenandoah on US-340, with the Shenandoah National Park in proximal location to the town and west of the Appalachian Trail. However, on the west side of Virginia's border and part of the Appalachians are the Shenandoah Mountains, it looks on the map as located in West Virginia. (Incidentally, there is also a Shenandoah, Pa.) I would surmise from this info with the associated map that references to Shenandoah require more specific reference or definition as it could be either WV or Va, or both....

Here is a brief advertising for tourist. As one reads this one can see the ambiguity:

By stating these facts, I am not trying to pick sides but support the return to respect and peace between two brethern who have understandable points of difference for which there is a plausible explanation.

As for coal mining ruining the landscape or the environment.... I'm no expert, but I didn't see any noticeable deterioration of the natural landscape when traversing the interstates through WV or Va.. A nurse I worked with came from the coal mining community and worked his way through nursing school by working in the coal mines and often spoke how much there is an exaggeration and drama in emphasizing the environmental destruction, which he denied was as great as it is represented: His concern was that this often cost the industry more in unnecessary distraction and attention and money disproportionate to the risk as opposed to the safety precautions and expense of labor to the folks working the mines.
