Jimmy C, the reason the SBC pulled out is not so they could bankrupt the BWA. Make sure that what you say is true before you say it, or several may take exception to what you say...if that's important.

The real reason was to punish the BWA for accepting the CBF as a member. That much should be clear from the record.

This thread makes a wonderful case for there to be no organization larger than a local congregation. [IMG]

Both approaches are equally Biblical. That is why the SBC did spend some time discussing the issues with the BWA to no avail, and then seperated. We did the right thing and are better off for it.

You probably didn't mean to direct me to Butane-Propane News, did you. ;)

www.bpnews.org is SBC Baptist Press News.

I was able to find these articles showing a progression of the relationship of the two organizations from 2000-2004 from the SBC perspective.

    Here are a couple more

American Baptist leader labels Patterson's charges 'outrageous'

Lotz says BWA 'slandered' by Southern Baptist leader
    http://www.abpnews.com/news/news_detail.cfm?NEWS_ID=75

Paige Patterson was quoted as sating the following in that article:"Saying the SBC can "no longer afford to be aligned in any way" with groups he considers gay-friendly, Patterson told messengers: "What you give your name and your money to, you give your tacit approval to"

does that apply to Henry Blackaby and Rick Warren - both starts of the SBC? They spoke at the BWA last week.

Praise God that I'm an Independent Baptist and a Fundamentalist. Where Christ is the Head of the local church and not some convention/board/heirarchy. That's the Bible method that God has installed.

Rick Warren received no help from the SBC when he started Saddleback.

In a way to get your minds off stupid politics and onto Christ. Just like the typical liberal churches where the committees and deacons run everything. Stick with the Bible and do it God's way (referring to the local New Testament Church). And yes,PastorSBC that does help, I feel bad for you if you don't see it that way.

So, in your estimation, being in an IFB church frees us completely from church politics and internal conflict?

No it is not of my estimation. Did I say that? No i didn't, so why try to make me look like I'm saying statements that I certainly have not made. It does not free us from church politics and internal conflict but it is scriptural to be an indepenet autonomous Bible Beleiving, New Testament Church. Don't twist statements that someone makes and take them out of context to make him look bad.

Can you show me the Scripture that says we are to be independent and autonomous please?

My "statement" was actually a question. Anyway, thanks for answering the question.

Your argument against the SBC is unfounded and a common misunderstanding among IFB brethren. SBC churches are independent and autonomous congregations. The ones I've been associated with are Bible-Believing, New Testament churches that believe that local congregations should be independent and not subject to any outside ecclesiastical authority.
