    ...and we haven't even gotten to the subject of "crack babies" or "fetal alcohol syndrome"...

    We trust God and lean on, cling to, and claim by faith Romans 8:28. No matter what. No matter the outcome. (If I didn't have Romans 8:28, I would go nuts.) Amen?

    I personally believe that if a sparrow cannot fall without God knowing it and if God has the hairs on our head numbered then Why would God not care about our sniffles?

    Not that we shouldn't pray for God's hand in ANY illness. But the "claiming" healing from the atonement is what I was jabbing at.

    God purposes some illnesses NOT to be healed. For His glory. THAT is something to "claim"!

    With all due respect Dr. Bob,
    Would you like for me to pray that you get an illness for God's glory?
    If I thought that sickness could bring glory to God I would call the Elders of the churcha and ask them to annoint me with oil and ask God to give me an illneess.

    Let me clarify the above post.
    I do think that there are attitudes that sick people have that can bring glory to God.
    The sickness itself is not a source for bringing God glory.
    Sickness can expose the heart of a person wheither it is good or bad.

    Atestring---that isn't what the good doctor is implying---he isn't implying that we should GET an illness so the glory of God can be seen. Rather as a whole---these earthen vessels we possess are finite---gonna die one day. The heart malfunctions primarily due to some sort of breakdown---same way with cancer---cell falfunctions and goes haywire----strokes, accidents, etc.------limit our lives to the finite while in these earthly vessels.----when illness comes(such as in the case of Lazarus) or Peter's Mother-in-law) or whoever else----that illness was there----developing as a result of the finiteness of our bodies! Jesus comes along and takes the illness and uses it to show how the glory of God is seen----kinda sorta gives us a preview of what Heaven will be like----ever thought how we will be "kept alive" throughout all Eternity??? Simply by the word of God! He's gonna speak life to me throughout all eternity!

    Anyway, some of the "Name it claim it" stuff we see on TV-----you come down with a Cold---you should speak to that Cold and tell it to "Be gone!"----when all along God also designed our bodies to produce anti-bodies and the function of White and Red Blood cells---that when we do come down with a cold-----it'll run its course in 5-10 days--with the blood cells producing anti-bodies and white blood cells fighting the invasion of foreign cells--same with a fractured arm or cut on the leg----we bandage it up and let the Red Blood cells begin producing colagulation agents to creat a "clot" and stop the bleeding---or whatever---

    Does that make sense?? The good doctor ain't saying we are NOT to pray for the Cold virus---neither is he saying we are to PRAY something BAD to happen to us---simply because we want to SEE the glory of God.

    John 9:1 Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. 2 And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" 3 Jesus answered, "Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.

    Was the works of God revealed in Him while this man was sick or when He was healed?

    Both! While he was sick---it shows that the man despirately NEEDED God----when he was healed it showed that he did have an encounter with God. He needed the glory---he got the glory! See?

    I would answer, when he was healed because illness was thought to be caused by sin in the life of the sick person or his parents. Look at Job's friends. They were just positive Job had done something to anger God.

    I've been at a funeral for one of the most wonderful Christian women who died very young and left behind 3 boys. Her husband preached her funeral and 11 of his Catholic relatives accepted Christ. THAT illness, how she handled it, and her death was used for God's glory!

    LadyEagle asked about crack babies, etc.

    2 Samuel 12:15 Then Nathan departed to his house. And the Lord struck the child that Uriah's wife bore to David, and it became ill. 16 David therefore pleaded with God for the child, and David fasted and went in and lay all night on the ground. 17 So the elders of his house arose and went to him, to raise him up from the ground. But he would not, nor did he eat food with them. 18 Then on the seventh day it came to pass that the child died. And the servants of David were afraid to tell him that the child was dead. For they said, "Indeed, while the child was alive, we spoke to him, and he would not heed our voice. How can we tell him that the child is dead? He may do some harm!" 19 When David saw that his servants were whispering, David perceived that the child was dead. Therefore David said to his servants, "Is the child dead?" And they said, "He is dead."
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Romans 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.
    The sins of the father are visited upon the young. David was forgiven for his sin when he repented but he still had to pay a price.
    Don't get me started.
    I have this argument constantly with WoF folks and, to a man, they completely ignore the fact that the preceding verses that set the context for this passage make it clear that it's talking about "transgressions" and "iniquities", not sickness.
    Jesus was the lamb slain before the foundation of the world.
    Without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin.
    Jesus Had to die to pay the dept for our sins otherwise nobody could be saved.
    Jesus took the wounding and the chastisement for our peace and our iniquities and transgressions.
    The stripes were for our healing.
    I believe that means physical healing.
    Jesus cared about the sickness of our bodies, otherwise He would not have healed the sick in His ministry. He would have only forgiven sin.
    The perfect healing is when a saint goes to be with the Lord...that's what I've heard said.
    But it is true.
    God chooses whom and for what purpose He will heal someone. I've seen Him heal. I've seen Him choose not to heal. Who am I but a lowly worm who knows that whatever blessings I may have all come from His Loving Hands. And even the hardships, too, when I thought my heart & spirit would break - He will never give us more than we can bear. And Romans 8:28 is still true.
    I agree that when a saint goes to be with the Lord that is a great thing. It is also wonderful when a saint is healed here on the earth.
    IF healing were the norm for all christians, (because of the atonement) then we've got a problem:
    WHY am "I" not healed? Am I too great a sinner? Do I not have enough faith?
    And what about Paul? He must have lacked faith, too because "but Trophimus have I left at Miletum sick." (II Tim 4:20)
    Matt. 5:45b for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
    John 11:4 "When Jesus heard that, He said, "This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it."
