The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in San Francisco on August 23 upheld California’s wildly controversial Senate Bill 1172 that bars licensed counselors — including pastors — from assisting youth who want to change or reduce their same-sex attractions. The law also prohibits any counseling that would steer youth away from gender confusion.

To be clear, it is only talking about licensed counselors. Pastors are only affected if they also are licensed counselors providing therapy (i.e. also getting paid for it).

That being said, it's a major overreach even for counselors alone to not allow a person to get assistance when it's sought. I don't believe we should force something onto a counselee who is unwilling or not ready, but it should not be illegal or unethical to provide a desired service in this area.
