People in the north-central part of the Canadian province of Ontario are digging out after one of the worst snow storms on record.

Some areas north of Toronto received as much as 100 centimetres of snow over the past three days.

The main highway through the region re-opened for the first time in days, but nearly all side roads remain closed, blocked by a thick blanket of snow, in some areas chest high.

You need to get with the times.

It isn't called "global warming" anymore.

The correct term is now officially "climate change".

All that snow is proof of climate change.

So then all that snow is proof of global warming...

Uhhhhh... I don't really understand it but that's the offical line.

One thing that would improve their lot is if they would use our measurement system.

It wouldn't help temps any...but 40 inches of snow has GOT to be LOTS less than 100 cm.

The amount of snow is determined by water content of the air. The ground only has to be below freezing for the snow to stick.

The warmer ocean air holds more water. It comes inland and collides with cold inland air and dumps snow. For a local example, consider lake effect snow south of the Great Lakes. The surface air coming off the lakes is only around freezing. when it meets the arctic air the combined mass has a much lower capacity to hold water so it dumps snow.

In the same way, if the air coming off the north atlantic is warmer it holds more moisture. Warmer ocean air thus causes more snow pack inland.

I can't wait to hear the explanation of why global warming leads to cooler temperatures.

One question: If global warming is occuring...doesn't that make the kool-aid you drink unpalatable?
