CDC: First Ebola case confirmed in the US

DALLAS —The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed the first case of Ebola in a patient diagnosed in a U.S. hospital, officials announced Tuesday.

The patient -- who has been isolated since his symptoms were recognized -- is an unnamed man at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. It is not known if he has exposed others. Healthcare workers noted his case because of his symptoms and recent travel history.

The announcement comes only days after a top German virologist asserted that five million people would die in Ebola-infected nations within Africa.

Despite recent attempts to reassure the public, the United States government has quietly been preparing for an Ebola outbreak for months.

Just this week, the CDC began advising funeral homes on how to handle the remains of Ebola victims while simultaneously attempting to downplay the threat.

The U.S. State Department ordered 160,000 Hazmat suits specifically for Ebola earlier this month as well.

The confirmation raises questions as to whether the CDC will invoke recently passed emergency measures that give the federal government the authority to detain any healthy American. Similarly, President Obama signed an executive order earlier this year that allows the federal government to detain anyone suspected of carrying any “communicable diseases.”

Well .... if this president and his administration can't keep illegals from crossing the border .... terrorists from going and coming .... and is still apprehensive about calling ISIS a bunch of religious radicals .... or calling terror acts in America: Terror .... what did you expect?

The truth is, with each failure and each passing incident, I feel less and less safe, especially about the Ebola virus, and terrorists on our soil. Obama does not score or rate high when it comes to PROTECTING Americans, and this is going to hurt his party in November, especially if other cases surface!

We as a church need to pray for this virus to be stopped dead in its tracks. And that either a cure be found, NOW, or that God miraculously heals everyone from this point forward.

God help us all, if somehow Ebola gets loose in the homeland!

Things To Ponder (from the NIV)

Your security should be in Christ. A crisis will always loom. He is the Rock --a mighty fortress.

With all the dangerous possibilities you have listed I sincerely doubt that being concerned about partisan politics will be at the top of the agenda for anyone.
We as a church need to pray for this virus to be stopped dead in its tracks. And that either a cure be found, NOW, or that God miraculously heals everyone from this point forward.
No American wants Ebola to get out of hand in America. But don't issue God ultimatums. The Lord has the right do what He wants. And it may be His will for any number of disasters to come upon the USA. Remember what Job told his wife in 2:10 :

"You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?"

Or look at Ecclesiates 7:14 :

"When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider; God has made the one as well as the other."

Or try Isaiah 45:7 :

"I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the Lord, do all these things."

Or observe what Amos 3:6b says :

"When disaster comes to a city, has not the Lord caused it?"

Try Lamentations 3:38 on for size :

"Is it not from the mouth of the Most High that both calamities and good things come?"

The day that many of us hoped would never arrive is here. Ebola has come to America. Air travel between the United States and the countries of Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone should have been totally shut down except for absolutely essential personnel but it wasn't. And now our nation may end up paying a great price as a result. On Tuesday, the CDC announced that there is a confirmed case of Ebola in Dallas, Texas. We know that this individual is a male and that he traveled by air from Liberia to Texas on September 19th. At that time, he was not exhibiting any symptoms. It is being reported that he started developing symptoms on September 24th and that he sought out treatment two days later. Incredibly, he was turned away and sent home. Then on September 28th he went to a hospital again and this time he was admitted for treatment. That means that he could have potentially been spreading Ebola to others for at least four full days before finally getting treated at a hospital. Now he is in intensive care at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. The CDC says that "there is no doubt that we will stop it here" and is promising that "it will not spread widely in this country". The CDC better be right on both counts.

At this point, the CDC is admitting that it is not known if others have been infected by this individual. The CDC also says that it is tracking down everyone that he has been in contact with. But over four days in a major U.S. city, you can be "in contact" with a whole lot of people. And what about all of the people that those people were in contact with?

If I was in charge of this crisis, I would admit that we don't know the full scope of the problem yet but that we are dealing with it the best that we can.

Instead, the director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is taking an entirely different approach. Dr. Thomas Frieden insists that we have absolutely nothing to worry about...

This is happening because the federal government has not taken the steps they should to prevent this kind of thing. Once they knew there was an outbreak over seas no one should be allowed to travel into the US without first going through a 3 week quarantine before being allowed to fly into the country.

I see. So (essentially) imprisonment for US citizens by the US government on the suspicion that someone might have a disease. Hmmmm... no thank you.

Absolutely impractical.

I wonder if the terrorists have thought of this kind of 'suicide bomber. Send an Ebola infected chap over the southern border and expose as many of us as he/she can. Already have one case of Ebola in the US as a result of someone returning from travel to West Africa. Maybe Rolf is right about the travel restrictions that were suggested but shouldn't we have travel restrictions to infected countries
already in place?

It would not be difficult for a Liberian to pass through another country or two before crossing the border from Canada.

Or cross illegally from Mexico.

A public tweet from a large government supplier of emergency response products specializing in “high risk events” says that Disaster Assistance Response Teams were told to prepare to be activated in the month of October. The shocking revelation, made on the Goldenstate Fire/EMS Twitter page, suggests that not only did someone know that the Ebola virus would be reaching America, but that they knew exactly when it would happen.

Walter, I wonder if they smart smart enough to know that by doing this they are putting themselves at risk?

But that may be a good thing since it would stop them.
