Charles Krauthammer's Take on Redskins Name

If "obsolete" is his criteria, then why isn't he talking about the New York Knickerbockers?

And, for that matter, what connection does Utah have with jazz?

It's just another case of manufactured outrage.

I have a friend who is an Indian dancer, storyteller, musician, and educator. I like his take on the story: "Oh, great. Another white liberal here to tell us what's good for us. That's always worked out well for us, hasn't it?"

Because nobody is griping about that.
Nobody even knows what a Knickerbocker is. Everything thinks they know what a "Redskin" is, but they don't realize the source of the word is from Native American's own culture, and was used by them to indicate the superiority of the native peoples to whites.

I am a native American - I was born in this country!

I'm just wondering if an Indian (and the Oneida Nation prefers that to Native American) was to recieve a million dollar contract from the Washington Redskins to play NFL football - would he refuse it based on the name of the team - I think not! Nuff said

No, next PETA will claim that the Ravens, Bengals, Broncos, Colts, Jaguars, Dolphins, Cardinals, Falcons, Panthers, Bears, Lions, Eagles, Rams, and Seahawks all have to change their names because the use of animals as mascots encourages their mistreatment.

Oh, God, what have I done ... ??
