    Mike,
Thanks for posting the link, I had good intentions of doing so but recent events have made a lot of things unimportant.

Pastor Larry, I have most of the books about the "controversy" After all I live in Macon Ga. Home of Smyth & Helwys and MUP. I believe the book you referenced is written by the guy from Bob Jones isn't it? If it is I would suggest you do a little more research. There are a plethora of books out there that address the subject.

I hope that people will weigh in once they have a chance to listen to the entire sermon in context.

Yes it is. So what is your point? Have you actually read the book or are you just familiar with the title?

It is a well researched and well written book. It is documented throughout with most of the documentation firsthand sources. He is not quoting others about the SBC. He is showing his information from the SBC itself. There is actually not much opinion in it. I know you won't like the facts but you can't deny the documentation of them.

What kind of research would you like me to do? As I have said, I am not in the SBC and am not all that interested in it. In past years, I have read some on it from a number of sources. There are a number of problems in the convention but all in all, in the recent years, the SBC has taken somewhat of a turn back to the right. It took the split of the CBF to make it happen but it seems to have happened, for now anyway.

Sure Ive read it and the title is S.B.C. House on The Sand? Critical Issues for Southern Baptists. I dug it out after I read your post.

I've read most of what I can find on the subject, I'm very interested in it, my point is that you may want to read some other stuff and not form your opinion off of what one author says, ecspecially since as you put it your not Southern Baptist and admit that you dont follow it closely.

Isnt it interesting that I read it and found that a lot of it was subjective opinion. I guess if you read Cothen, Shurden, Harwell or those folks in your mind it would be subjective.

Oh well enough of that, we can discuss it on an SBC thread.

What do you think about what Dr. Stanley said and does this seem to be a departure from what he has historically taught?

I don't know exactly the context of his comments. If Stanley said it as it appears here, I think he is out of line with Scripture and he has departed from what I believe he has previously taught. However, I really don't know that much. I do not listen to Stanley (I don't like to hear him).

I had to listen to it twice to be sure I heard it right. Dr. Stanley asks what will God do and answers that it's God's responsibility.
    But he is wrong, IMHO

John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Mark 16:16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
