About three weeks ago, Way of the Master broadcast a sermon by John McArthur asking the question, "Should Evangelicals Witness to Roman Catholics".

As someone who believes that the Roman Catholic church is the biggest mission field in the world right now, his message was a real wake up call for me to get serious about sharing the Gospel with them.

The sermon isn't two hours long, but because it's broken up by station breaks and whatnot, it does stretch out for almost two hours.

You can listen to as much or as little as you have time for, but I promise you, it will be well worth it.

This is simply not being preached in our churches and after hearing MacArthur preach it, I can only say shame on us.

    Lets Get To It!

I firmly believe that the Roman Catholic church is responsible for blinding more people to the truth of the gospel than any other organization in America. I have unsaved relatives that are trapped in Romanism. They are leading men into hell, and we cannot stand idly by. We must learn how to witness to Roman Catholics, and then we must ask for the Lord to empower us for the task.

The Roman church is operating in the spirit of antichrist. Consider the following quote by a R.C. priest in my local paper's religious section. When asked how he would envision a peace filled world he said,

"I think we would see all human beings as being truly our brothers and sisters, part of our one family. We would live that way consciously instead of all divisions that we have in terms of nations or economic systems or religions. We would still have diversity. St. Paul gives us the great example of that when he talks of the body with all the different parts. All of them are important and necessary."
    (Ludington Daily News, p.A9, 1/26/2007)

Every human is a part of the Body of Christ? We need to weep for the dear souls that have been deceived by this system of lies. We need to get to the task of preaching the gospel to every creature, especially the Roman Catholics.

Ditto, Pastor Brad. Pray for words to say to them. Roman Catholicism is a world-wide disaster.

We have a neighbor who is LDS, an elderly widow. I prayed for a way to witness to her. I asked God to show me how to begin. After about 3 weeks I learned that her sister had died. In taking a sympathy card to her, I was able to share, written in the card, John 3:16-17, John 14:6, and Romans 10:8-13, clearly indicating that Joseph Smith is no where to be found in the plan of salvation, as Mormon's believe. Now I pray that God will open the door a little wider, so that I (actually, Jesus) can walk in.

    :praying:

If you feel the need to witness to Roman Catholics, be sure to not use words or attitudes that are going to have them put up their defence shields faster than Star Trek. Phrases like "false gospel" or "Whore of Babylon" or comparing the pope to the Antichrist will get you nowhere. Likewise, phrases like "Roman Catholicism is a worldwide disaster" or "Rome is blinding people" will turn your audience off faster than you can pass out Jack Chick tracts.

Simply put, use the gospel. Explain to them the need to put Jesus first and solely as their source of salvation. Encourage bible study and prayer to God, not to saints. And most importantly, share the joy of your own faith. Then, if they ask if they can do this as Catholics, tell them gently that you really cannot do so fully, and here's why. Avoid harsh and outlandish examples and statistics that just are not right (eg. "The Roman Catholic Institution started Nazi Germany and cause 100 million deaths in the Inquisition!" Puh-leeze). Tell them that the original church of Rome was taken in at one time by Constantine (who was NOT a pope, by the way), with most likely good intentions, but that it lost its way when it compromised with some old pagan practices. Though it does have Jesus as its source of salvation, it just has too much baggage along the way. Just keep it simple and basic, and let God do the rest.

Please let me clarify just a bit. I believe strongly that Roman Catholicism is being used by Satan to blind millions of people to the truth of the Gospel, but in no way is it necessary to be harsh, rude or offensive to a person who is Catholic. We will not be as effective in our personal evangelism by attacking the Roman church point by point, and insulting the one we are witnessing to.

We need only to share the truth of the Gospel in a clear and direct way. There is not much profit in ripping apart every shred of what that person has been taught by their priest/church. Our goal should be to show a man his need of Salvation by faith in Christ alone, apart from any "church" or system of works.

I can say from personal experience that once a Roman Catholic has accepted Christ, they do not need us to rip apart the Roman system. The Holy Spirit does a much better job that I can at exposing the false doctrines of the Roman church.

While I truly hate the system of Roman Catholicism, I believe I truly have a love for the people who are trapped in it. We need to go to them with a heart of compassion. Begging God to open their eyes to His truth!
