Unless its IFB, in which case they're all family members.

That is a great policy. It shows a concern for the members' welfare.

    God bless.

I can see how in a church that maybe has a few hundred people attending between, let's say, two services a Sunday morning, that someone can be missed, but when there's about 4,000 people attending between five services on Saturday evening and Sunday morning, how is someone who hasn't been to church in a few weeks (or months) going to be missed?

I'll admit it; I just "dropped out" of my previous church. There were a few things I saw as issues and I knew that going to the senior pastor, or anyone in charge, for that matter, wouldn't amount to a hill of beans, so I just stopped going and found another church (admittedly much closer to my house) to call home. Never received a phone call from the pastor or the men's group I went to a couple times a month. No letter, no visits, no nothing. I guess I was just a nobody in their eyes. The church I'm attending now is smaller in numbers and, as I have found, much more intimate, for lack of a better word, when it come to congregational relationships.

I was attending a SBC church about 40 people ( several were college students) never felt at home there - so we started attending elsewhere - been well over a year - not one phone call from the pastor or anyone else from that church.

    Good point brother.

Legalism is the main focus here. So many Christian's seem to behave
as if the image and ministry of Jesus will be tarnished if we don't step in
and protect Him. That's what I take from all this legalistic nonsense.

Jesus doesn't need our help. He's quite capable of protecting Himself.

My friend...there will always be legalistic churches. I am confronted with the reverse. Around me, most churches are becoming charismatic.....very lax. I could tell you stories, but that's not helpful. All we can do brother is sincerely search out better churches and pray they materialize. God bless you in your search.:)

Keep in mind that Charismatic churches can be very legalistic - of course some of the "Baptist rules" of dresses only for women, no movies, ect - but in addition - no makeup for women, and that would include lipstick, ect.

Salty, the Charismatics around here are essentially Ex-Catholics ....so there is none of that. They wear shorts & sneakers. And they talk down to Baptists & reject Baptist Churches as being legalistic. And its the Baptist Churches fault for allowing rogue Pastors forming groups who excoriated true baptists & setting an agenda of bringing in Catholics (not regenerated) to form this style of Church.

I do not condone legalism, but God plainly established church discipline.

The charismatic around here are mostly ex Pentecostal and ex Baptist. The SBC churches and the non denominational/charismatic churches in this area have a very cooperative attitude. They don't get along too well with the three independent Baptist churches here, but honestly it is hard to get along with someone who tells you that you are going to Hell if you read any other version of the Bible than the "1611 King James."

There are virtually no SBC churches and very few Independent Baptists. About 25 years ago, maybe seeing the eventual demise of traditional churches.....pastors of every stripe gathered together to change the name's and character of the existing....almost every Baptist church in the area became a "community" or a "bible" church. The real goal is to draft in ex-catholics who want non traditional music, New styles of workshop, almost no structure in doctrine and very little bible study. That has become what dominates the landscape here.

I guess we are a bit different because there are virtually no, and even less ex Catholics around here. I do not know a Catholic in this town who is younger than 60.

Go post on OnlineBaptist and tell them you're a Calvinist. There will be no "getting along". I'm just glad they don't have my home address.

That's more a Pentecostal thing, specifically, a Oneness Pentecostal thing.

There are some areas of overlap between Charismatics and Pentecostals, but they're not really the same thing.
