The Class of 2005 Baseball Hall of Fame is... (insert drum roll and mounting tension)...

    NOBODY

Zip, zilch, zero, nicht, nein, nobody!

The rest of the story here.

Good thing they spent a few million redoing the Hall!

This is only the veterans committee vote. The regular class has already been elected.

Amen, but don't think he'll make it, especially since 65 votes are now required. Not unless a grass root movement is started.

Hey PastorGreg! I don't want to take anything away from Wade Boggs and Ryne Sandberg. Cooperstown will be swarming with folks saluting these two fine players.
ONLY? Only a committee of their peers. Only the ball players, managers and writers already inducted into the hall. The vet's committe had inducted 40 more players into the Hall than the Baseball Writers Association.
In other words the BBWAA is still fuming over the Bill Mazeroski vote of 2001 and will continue to pressure the Vet's Committee until 2003 and 2005 no votes are common place. The Vets have a composite ballot in 2007 (umps & managers incl.) At this rate the Hall will never be graced with Hodges. Maris, Oliva, Santo, Wills, Lolich....

The one exception to the waiting period was Clemente. I have no doubt that he woulda made it on the first regular vote anyway, but to rush his election because of his tragic death almost seems like an insult.

Although I leved in Cincy for awhile, I was fortunate enough to have seen him play many times, and even MEET him. (We didn't say more than "hi"; his English was never the best, nor is my Spanish!)

    Gone, but never forgotten...
