For months, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton has promised a plan to bring health care to every American.
She was to make good on that pledge Monday, unveiling a sweeping proposal requiring everyone to carry health insurance and offering federal subsidies to help reduce the cost of coverage.
With a price tag of about $110 billion per year, Clinton's "American Health Choices Plan" represents her first major effort to achieve universal health coverage since 1994, when the plan she authored during her husband's first term collapsed..........
..........Clinton's plan builds on the existing employer-based system of coverage. People who receive insurance through the workplace could continue to do so; businesses, in turn, would be required to offer insurance to employees, or contribute to a government-run pool that would help pay for those not covered. Clinton would also offer a tax subsidy to small businesses to help them afford the cost of providing coverage to their workers.
For individuals and families who are not covered by employers or whose employer-based coverage is inadequate, Clinton would offer expanded versions of two existing government programs: Medicare, and the health insurance plan currently offered to federal employees. Consumers could choose between either government-run program, but aides stress that no new federal bureaucracy would be created under the Clinton plan.
Aides said Clinton will propose several specific measures to pay for her plan, including an end to some of the Bush-era tax cuts for people making more than $250,000 per year.

Maybe this time around Americans will be ripe ready for socialism.
If its going to be free, why should I continue to shell out 200 dollars a month for my employer provided health care?

    American Health Choices Plan ?

Choices? Not for everyone. Why is she so studiously avoiding the mandatory nature of her expensive proposal?

Communism is a political system. I do not recall Senator Clinton calling for replacing our democratic form of government with a communist one.

Senator Clinton is a socialist - socialism being an economic system that can fit any political system.

You know _33, this statement will be made by multitudes that will never be able to see that an added $500/mo will be deducted from their salary to replace that $200/mo premium. These poor blind sheeple will honestly think that they are saving that $200/mo.

I once heard of a local citizen that the Dept of Trans. (S.C.) had offered $600 for several feet of her property to widen a secondary road. A lawyer (this in a small rural town, so the atty was hungry) told her he could get her at least $800, so she let him handle the case.
Sho' nuff, he got the DOT to pay $800, but he charged 400, so the property owner wound up with only $400.

She was perfectly happy though, because she was PAID $800, 200 more than the original offer!:BangHead:

Some people are so gullible/greedy that if you put $5 in one pocket, they are so fixated on that that they are totally unaware of the $10 slipped from the other pocket!

In 1848 the word communism acquired a new meaning when it was used as identical with socialism by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels in their famous Communist Manifesto. They, and later their followers, used the term to mean a late stage of socialism in which goods would become so abundant that they would be distributed on the basis of need rather than of endeavour.

    Point taken.

If we are going to equate communism with socialism then we are rather communistic in these United States with Social Security, Medicare, and the welfare programs such as Medicaid, food stamps, et al.

Question for those who aren't laissez-faire: What percentage of my income can the govt confiscate before it's no longer considered capitalistic? Further, why that specific percentage?

I am genuinely asking. Is this news to you? this is exactly where the communist Dems want to take us. The misuse of power by taking private property under the eminent domain policy plays right along with the definition I provided. All of the programs you mentioned are an incriminalization (is that a word?) toward that end. If Poncho want to get paranoid about something I would suggest that this has a much stronger case.

The Republicans are no better in this regard with programs such as their prescription drug program and No Child Left Behind.

I agree with the exception that the intent is much different. Either way it should not be.

    FINALLY!

For me this is the most important issue in the upcoming election. We need universal heath care more than anything. I look forward to voting for someone who will bring this to pass.
