Coincidence?

DO you believe in coincidence? I have heard many people say no. I have said so myself. But something strange happened yesterday, and I cant figure out what it was other than coincidence.

My 3 year old was drawing a picture for a friend. It was of a boy with a sad face and a girl with a happy face. The boy (he is her 13 year old "boyfriend") was sad b/c he couldnt stay outside and play. The girl (his sister) was happy b/c she did get to stay outside and play for a long time. Later I was talking to the mother of the two kids in the picture. I told her about my daughter"s drawing and she said that was exactly what had happened with her children that afternoon. I know this sounds silly, but stuff like this bugs me.
Another one was today driving home, I had a fleeting thought about a rock hitting my window. About 2 mins later, a rock flew up and hit my window, making a little spider web thingy.
So do you have these things and what are they?

I don't believe in coincidence. I think all things happen for a reason. Many times we have no clue why they happen, but must leave it in God's hands to work all of that out.

The two situations you listed are rather strange, but I will leave them to God. I am sure He has a purpose for all things. Maybe it is just as simple as reminding you of His Sovereign power, knowledge and presence.

It depends on how you define it. Since God is in control of all things, and if one defines coincidence as something not uder God's sovereignty, then no, there can be no such thing as coincidence.

If, however, one views coincidence as things happenning without any apparantly intended relation, yet still being under God's sovereignty, then yes, there is coincidence, as surely as the son shining and the rain falling on the just and unjust alike. Only in our self-centered arrogance do we assume that everything that happens, happens for us.

I've said I don't believe in coincidence, as well. But things have happened to me, too, that are just eerie.

Don't know how to explain them, other than coincidence.

LOL, don't worry about the 'boyfriend' thing. When our oldest daughter was about three I was a high school leader in our church. One of the boys, Peter, was a happy, laughing guy and Julie loved that and declared that she was going to marry him when she grew up. He was her 'boyfriend.' Her declaration....not his!

Lost track of Peter years ago, and our daughter is now almost 27 and very happily married to someone else!

About 'coincidences' -- it can sure seem like that, can't it? But figure there are enough events in the world and enough thoughts in our heads that occasionally some are going to coincide!

I call it intuition, or hypersensitivity.

Some examples: I was doing dishes and thinking about zebras a while back. There was no reason for it. My then 3 year old daughter was sitting at my feet playing, looked up, and commented on how prettiful zebras are.

Another time I was driving in my car and thought to myself "what will I do if that car ahead of me swerves to the left and slams on the brakes?" The kind of thing where you're not really aware you're thinking of it, but you make plans. Car ahead of me swerved to the left, slammed on the brakes, I had already started slowing down and moving toward the left.

Sometimes I think it's what I said...sensitivity. Nothing weird, some people are just more sensitive to the emotions and moods and thoughts of others. More connected.
At other times I'm pretty sure it's God working and keeping my family safe. Of course, that makes me wonder why he doesn't do it ALL the time, but it seems like so often I've escaped the major things by "odd coincidence" like the car thing above.
There are so many of them, and I think they happen more than people credit them happening. Or they just call them deja voo moo boo hoo or whatever that is. I think some of us tend to notice them more is all. How many times have you seen an accident happen, or been just a few feet from something awful? Usually you can point to something in your day that kept that from being you. Like having stopped for coffee when you normally wouldn't have, or you didn't feel good and spent an extra minute in bed.

Dont worry, SFIC, its not a "real" one. He's one of the youth at church and she just thinks he's wonderful. lol

Gina, I have similar experiences as you do. Many times, I will see something in my mind or be thinking about something, and then, boom. There it is. Freaks me out. I know God is sovereign, no doubt there, just curious as to why some people experience this type thing and others dont.

I do know strange things happen.

Tuesday I was talking to my brother, who I thought was in GA but had moved to SC about trying to meet up while I am in the States in May for three weeks. I contacted him because his old place was close to a supporting church.

Anyway, his new home is close to another supporting church. When he asked by email what church it was I told him. At the same time he was talking on the phone with a co-worker who lives in he same area as our supporting church. To make a long story short the co-worker is a member of the supporting church!

So after all that I am going to get see a brother I have not seen in many years [IMG] !

Sure, there are coincidences... which simply means that 2 (or more) things happen simultaneously and/or have some relation in common. The valid question, I think, is: how many times am I thinking of something that does not have quick reality? It's because of the rarity of those occasions where 2 or more incidents do seem to be related that we notice and remember. But reading these posts, no wonder in that recent poll most voters did not believe in ghosts or bigfoots, but did believe in psychic powers and prophetic dreams or hallucinations. That it's human nature to make associations is what this subject is about.

Now, what stocks are going up the most tomorrow?

Yep, same here. Whatever the correct term is I don't know. It would be nice if it happened when you wanted it to. lol It's wild though.

The Scots (people in Scotland) call it the "second sight". Can I explain how some people seem to know things in advance? Nope...

It happens to my wife frequently. We refer to it as the biblical gift of discernment. ;)

I have wondered if it might be partly discernment. I do feel I have the gift of discernment (not because of these "coincidences") But sometimes it happens when there doesnt seem to be a need for discernment.

Sure there is coincidence. How many times have you and your spouse said the exact thing at the same time? Ever see two people turn a corner at the same time and knock heads? I believe God has a great sense of humor, and most things in my life that are "coincidental" are pretty funny. [IMG]
