SI.com recently took a survey of one starting player from each of the 119 Div. 1A teams, found at: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20.../preview/2007/08/07/survey.results/index.html

    Some of the basics:
Choice to win 'national championship': USC 49.5%, Florida 17.6%, LSU 8.4%.
Choice to win Heisman Trophy: Darren McFadden 58%, John David Booty 10.1%, Steve Slayton 8.4%.
Should college football (Div. 1A) institute a playoff? Yes 73.1%, No 24.4%, Maybe 2.5%.
Should college athlets be compensated beyond their scholarships? Yes 76.5%, No 23.5%.
Do you read message boards or blogs where your team or sport is discussed? Yes 39.5%, No 60.5%.

The article does include a few notes and quotes, some of which are interesting. One thing I note is that the SEC is the conference in which the players were most in favor of a playoff, while the Big 12 is the conference most against it. That sounds like they are going by recent history, as the top-heavy Big 12 seems to have had an advantage in at least reaching the championship game (5 of the last 7), while the SEC has had better overall success but just 3 championship game appearences in the last 9 years because it's tougher to make it undefeated through the schedule.

In another question, the average number of hours per week spent in "football-related acitivites" was 38.9. But players interpreted this (and probably others) questions differently; for example, some are said to have included hours going to class as "football-related"... make of that what you will.

Finally, most of the 60+% who say they do not read message board or blogs say the reason is people who write or comment don't know what they're talking about :tonofbricks: .

    Questions? Comments? Counter-attacks?...

I can believe this. Have you seen some of the posts on this board? There are many posters who don't have a clue. Of course, this excludes my own posts, which are chock full of wisdom.
