>I don't think it should have ever been raised to 21 in the first place.

You got it backwards. There was no drinking age in 1776.

Why not just lower it to 16, the legal age for obtaining a drivers license. Or to 15, the legal age to obtain a work permit. :BangHead:
15 and 16 year olds are not deemed adults by our society...18 year olds are. 'nuff said.

At one point in our country, the age was 18. I agree there was no age in 1776.

Well, duh.
Well, that's what I was thinking about your non sequitur...but thought I would state the obvious. Your point made no sense.

"Society" also says abortion is okay, gay marriage, etc. Doesn't take a much thinking to understand that its wrong. Same with lowering a legal drinking age.

Setting a legal drinking age lower is not "wrong". To compare lowering it to legalizing abortion or legalizing homosexual marriage is quite silly.

So what age is right then, Ken?

One reason may be that by age 21, the teenage body has fully formed.

Drinking, ingesting drugs unnecessarily at such a young age can stunt growth according to our Doctor. He compared it to our son's Keyloid on his shoulder. A Keiloid is an irritaiting piece of skin that grew from a chicken pox (he kept scratchng it) when he was young.

It was small but when we had it removed, it grew back larger. Websites and a specialist we consulted state not to remove them, to wait until kids are fully grown.
We must wait until he is about 19 years old, otherwise, when his body has stopped growing or the likelihood of it growing back even larger is very high. Alcohol at such a young age may harm their development imo, when the same amount may not have the same damaging effects at 21 years old.

There is no "right" age. Personally, I think it should be at the same age that one is able to enter military service. If we can trust a person with the defense of our nation then we should trust him/her with what legal liquids they consume.

What about 17? 16? 10?

And you accused me of being silly. So you would trust an 18 year old, fresh out of High School, with defending you?

Don't we allow 18 year olds to serve in the military?

You and I are not going to reach agreement on this issue. We have both made our cases. Let's just agree to disagree, brother. :)

Yes we do. But would you trust an army of 18 year olds, fresh out of High School, with defending the nation? Surely you woudn't.

You are probably right.

Another non sequitur. Murder and homosexuality are sins, alcohol consumption is not.

But drunkenness is. Partying college students don't drink because they like the taste.

This whole issue is pushed by university administrators so that they will no longer have to answer for underage drinking in the frat/sorority houses on campus imo.

Back to the OP...

The rationale by the presidents...that somehow allowing younger kids to drink legally will prevent binge drinking...is so silly and devoid of common sense that it proves to me that their concern is selfish in nature.

I agree it is silly, I mean college students are going to continue to have keg parties regardless of the age of consumption.

But on the other hand, if the government deems an “adult” at 18 years of age and can thus vote, be charged as an adult and put to death by the state at 18 and join the military at 18, then why can’t this “adult”, have a beer if he so chooses?

Alcohol consumption is not the issue in question. It's the AGE, Mr. Non sequitur. And yes, allowing a child to consume is a sin. Whether you want to agree to that or not, it doesn't matter.

If alcohol is not in question, what are we talking about, allowing an 18 year old to drink coffee?

You compared what society deems "what's right", I'm only pointing out what our society deems "legal". 18 is considered to be adult.

Alcohol CONSUMPTION, son, and the age. The issue is alcohol consumption by kids.
