    Good Morning Everybody,

Just checking in. I'm home for awhile.

Ann: So tell me, does your daughter look like Mom?

Sue: Sometimes re-doing an old house means fixing other peoples mistakes, or laziness.

Gayla: AWWRIGHT!!!! Waitin' for the markers to go down.

There's no way around it. We're going to have to "bite the bullet" and look for a bigger house. Our house isn't big enough for us + all the grandkids, and My MIL isn't going to be able to live alone much longer. Actually we knew this was coming, we did the financial work beforehand so we know just how much we can finance. That will help us narrow our search.

I called AL, MS,KY,VA,WV, and TN to see if they had any extra room for another baby boomer, but they haven't got back to me. Oh well, I can dream can't I?

We're going to look close to the area we're in right now. I don't want to uproot the Gkids from their friends and school. I must be out of my mind. I'm 55 and looking for another house. :BangHead:

Lunch is Chicken Enchiladas, Mexican Slaw, and Triple Chocolate Bliss Cake. Dinner is Roast Turkey with Cornbread Stuffing, Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, Hot Biscuits, Maple-Glazed Baby Carrots, and Chocolate-Cluster Peanut Butter Cake.

This is today's menu in the CGCH also. It's time to "prime the pump" for Thanksgiving isn't it?

Brenda and Louise are coming down to her mother's for dinner tonight. Saves time carrying food.

I'm going to stay home a little longer this afternoon. Louise is watching her Grandmother, and it gives me a little time to get things done before I go back.

I like to think so - and there ARE times we look a lot alike but add 27 years on her and about 25 lbs. and you have me. ;) I don't have any good recent pics of me to show you - shucks. ;) LOL!!

Rob - I'll be praying for the house hunt. I love house hunting if we don't NEED to move but when you HAVE to move, then it's much tougher.

Helen - That's so great that Barry got an answer about his issues! It's no nice to hear them breathing, isn't it?? :)

Ann: Maybe Mom just remembers when she looked like that. She's a cute kid. Tell your DH to aim the shotgun over the kid's head. The sound scares 'em more than anything else. Don't worry about posting pictures of yourself Ann. I have to go down to the post office to get my picture off the wall. I have to update the darn thing every few years. It's sure nice to be wanted, even if it is by the FBI.

Helen: I used to sleep with a C-PAP machine for sleep apnea. If Barry gets put on one you'll notice a world of change in him, and almost immediately too. He'll wake up rested, and not dragging for a change. He'll have more energy too.

Aww Helen, I love hearing about your family! :) I know there is still life ahead of me, I just really like the one I have now!

Hey Cuz, I keep telling you that Alabama is a fine place to live. Larger house? If I wasn't already settled, a house just came on the market that I would love. It has 4 or 5 bedrooms, 2 garages, a studio apt, 2 or 3 bathrooms (just can't remember), sits on a nice lot that is one block from the elementary school Jenna attends and across the street from the highschool, all for $139,000. Drawbacks is that part of the neighborhood south of the house is changing quickly from middle income to lower and the street between it and the high school is very busy. Still it's an excellent price for that size house and you could always put up a privacy fence. Crime is fairly low here even if you live in a 'bad' neighborhood. Property taxes will run you about $500 a year, insurance about $1500 a year. UAB is one of the top 10 hospitals in the country for heart care and is barely an hour away (it'll be less than that when the new interstate is finished). School system is one of the tope 10 in the state. How's that for benefits? :D

    Very nice work, Ann!

    Good Morning Everyone!

It is raining in Alabama! yay!!!!!

But since it is also muggy and hot, fixin's for smoothies are in the fridge.

Today is Statewide Parent Teacher Visitation so I gotta go get dressed and take myself off to visit. Cass says one of her teachers is willing to give extra credit if the kids can get their parents to come. Now let me ask you, what would the parent of an honors student need to talk to a teacher about when said student is making excellant grades already? Usually, the teachers are glad to NOT see me by this time of year! :D

I do have to visit with Jenna's teacher. Jenna had a bug again yesterday so I didn't get her report card.

Ya'll have yourselves a good day. The rain means my plans for the day have changed some, so I'll have to figure out where we go from here!

Sounds exactly what like what I'm looking for Cuz. Just don't know if your blood cousins would accept me, and I hear from a good source that there is SMOCKING that goes on in the area, and that it's even infiltrated the churches. The ringleader is some mysterious chick named Bindi, or Mindi, or something like that, and that she has a cohort who lives near her and only uses her initials.

    Good Afternoon Everybody,

It is cooler today, but we had thunderstorms during the night, and have a strong chance of severe storms tonight.

MIL had a weak spell last night and almost fell while using her walker. She was moving just fine past the refridge [ I was slightly to the side of her] when she suddenly started falling to her right. Naturally, I had the walker in my way, so I got her arm, and I swiveled to put my derriere[aka my recliner-muscle] into the fridge door so if I couldn't stop her fall I could lessen the impact[ I carry extra padding for just such an emergency  ]. I literally picked her up and carried her to her chair to get her into it so I could assess what what was happening. The only thing I didn't tell MIL to do was let go of the walker. :BangHead: Would've been a cute picture to post of me carring MIL AND her walker. Guess I really do serve a purpose down there, other than to just cook, and look cute. ROTFL!!!!!

Not much going on just starting to look at real estate listings in the area. Seriously I'd consider moving to Sweet Home Alabama but the next thing you know my Cuz would have me smocking at the church, and all the Ladies would be laughing at me because the only stitches I know are surgical stiches. Maybe I could cook and they could teach me to smock. Trouble is I don't know any local dishes, and I'm not sure if they'd appreciate some of my "fancy name" dishes.

Helen: How's Barry doing? Seen any improvement in how he feels?

These breaks where I get a chance to get home for a couple hours sure help. After I get everything done, and if my MIL is lying down I'm left to my own amusement. So I'll come up with a Bible study to do, or watch tv, or look out the window, or sit on the porch, etc. I gotta get away. I think I just saw Sam Waterston walking his dog, and Lenny Briscoe shooting pool next door, and I keep hearing this funny DUH-DUH sound in my head. Now if I start making wisecracks like Lenny Briscoe I am in trouble.

Time to shave, shower, change, and go back in awhile. Dinner is in the process of being made. Everybody ate the Turkey dinner last night like it was their last meal.

Tonight's dinner is Creamy Baked Chicken with Cheddar Biscuits, Italian Chopped Salad, Assorted Deviled Eggs[with different toppings-Country Favorite[topped with bacon & green onions]; Italian[Sun-dried tomatoes & basil]; Fiesta[red peppers & cilantro]; and Coastal[drained baby shrimp & fresh dill], Dessert is 3-Layer Lemon Pie.

I brought the above into the Coffeehouse too. Didn't know if anybody needed dinner or a snack. Enjoy.

Yes. I know Sweetest Day is coming up. This year just might be a dinner and a gift. Can't really get away with MIL's current issues.

Brenda just came into the room and exlaimed EUREKA!!! I thought she'd made some scientific discovery, but I guess she was talking about me. I guess I REEKA.

Leaving before I infect the CGCH.

Well, howdy all. I've been busy....sooooooo busy this past week or so! And now today I'm even more busy than that. Viv's got to work some major overtime at Dell this week and it's really hard to do right now. I've got a couple of small cheap steaks in the crock pot with spices, etc., and we're going to turn those into Shepherds Pie tonight. Hopefully it will go two or three meals. Food here has skyrocketed and we're wondering how to stretch the de-valued dollar into the .60-.70 cents it's really worth now. But, God has been good, as He always is! :godisgood:

I've got a small load of darks and jeans washing together. I know Vivian will probably kill me for washing the two together, but, with the water company raising their rates, I don't see as how I have much choice at the present. Tomorrow I'll have to do two more loads since Viv's got to work Saturday AND Sunday ten to twelve hours each day. That's okay, though. The overtime is helping us to catch up on some of the other stuff that needs to be done to the van and now to the car...tune ups, oil changes, new tires, etc.

Hope all is going well where you are in this world. :)
My nephew is getting ready to go to Iraq on Nov 1 st. He is an only child and it's driving my sister nuts. Some of the chaplains and helpers are going to be speaking to him about possibly staying home here in the States and taking care of his ailing mother.

Anyone else here under a Tornado watch until 11 pm?

    Evening all,
Just grabbing a Mt. Dew and heading out. I need to feed the dogs and get to bed pretty soon since I have a long day at work tommorrow. I was looking forward to a restful weekend then looked at the soccer schedule and no such luck!!!!!!!! Maybe I can catch a nap in between games. I am loving our cooler weather and enjoying the fact that it is here for awhile. I am going to need a jacket if the dogs are uncooperative and want to play while I am out. I had better go.

Good morning. We have the "Pineapple Express" here -- rains coming up from the southwest -- i.e. Hawaii. Warm and wet!

Friend of God, Barry is not doing well. The prednisone seemed a 'miracle' for the first two nights, but last night was back to the sleep apnea. We have been researching it on the net and his appears to be the 'mixed' kind, both the soft tissue problem in the back of the throat and the brain control missing cues. This morning around five, while he was still asleep, I put my arm over him and started counting his breaths. There would be 8-10 breaths, with the last becoming shallow, and then 10-15 seconds of no breathing at all, then a gasp, then about 8-10 more breaths and the pattern would repeat itself. There is NO cure on the net that we could find and only a few surgical interventions which are not terribly promising. But sleep apnea causes enormous problems, including hypertension, enlarged heart, memory loss, and a ton of other things. It's scary.

I am praying to the Lord for wisdom on this thing. The two things which do seem to relieve some of the problem are Afrin (or its generics), which shrink the nasal membranes and thus permit easier air flow and an anti-snore spray which affects the back of the throat. Afrin, however, can damage your mucous linings in your nose if used too often. The snore spray can be used as often as needed. Please, for those of you who do pray for others, remember Barry....

I have spoken privately to the video team who is doing the dvd's of Barry's work and they are going to do as many interviews with him as soon as possible so we have him on tape with all the information on his research we can get out of him. A precaution against something awful happening...

He sees the dr. again next week.

In the meantime, we did not get that dog. The woman proved impossible to work with. She was never quite well enough for us to visit and see the dog. Or her husband was sick, or....

But Dusty needs a playmate now King is so arthritic, so we have been checking the paper for free pets. Yesterday we saw an add for a free year old fixed male beagle/shepherd mix. Now I don't have any reason to suppose I am more curious than others, but a beagle-shepherd mix???? We'll go see him this morning, if nothing more than to assuage our curiosity!

And, AVL1984, darks and jeans together should be fine. I do it all the time! I'm praying your nephew will try to remain in the USA rather than going overseas. If he is an only child and his mother is not well, he is definitely needed here.

Gayla, hang in there. By the way, did you get a package in the mail in the last few weeks???? :wavey:

    Good night all,
I am just running in for a minute. I am leaving some pints of ice cream in the freezer. I am taking one and heading to the laundry room. I need to get some clothes washed before I can go to bed. I have to have some jeans to wear tommorrow. I am loving our cooler weather. It was really nice to be able to take the kiddos outside twice today at work. I don't get to do that often. I usually don't have the help. I have a busy day tommorrow even though the oldest niece is the only one playing soccer tommorrow. The middle two neices are dancing at a festival then we are running to the soccer game then hopefully will get to come home and rest!
    Y'all have a good weekend!

OK, help. I have some pictures of our beasties but I can't figure how to get them on here. I've been trying for a bit and I'm not getting the hang of it. The 'insert image' icon is what I'm supposed to use, right? But something isn't working right...

Maybe we should have a "how to" sticky that could take us step by step thruough things like posting pics? I for one would find it most useful.

    Blessings

I use www.flickr.com for my pictures. First, I put the pictures in "My Documents".

Then I go to Flickr and upload them. Right click on the picture and then click on "Properties".

Hightlight and copy it, then come to the BB and click on the yellow picture at the top of each post.

Be sure and delete the "http://" that is already there and then paste the URL there that you copied from Flickr (or whatever picture site you use).

That should do it. Email or PM me with any more questions. I will help if I can.

Yea - I wanna see beasties!! Helen - you'll understand this. I went to ride on Thursday and there was a note from Whirl and Starr's owner that Starr (29 year old horse) had a cut on his nose and she'd be back in the evening to clean it up again so I went to see it. Seems one of the other horses bit Starr on the nose between his nostrils and took a HUGE CHUNK out of it!! Poor thing is almost blind so he uses his nose to "see" and now anytime anything came near it, he'd flinch really violently because that thing HURT!!! Poor baby!! He was even having a hard time grazing and eating hay - it just kept hurting him. :( I made sure I wet down his dinner so that it was like oatmeal and it wouldn't hurt his nose. It made me so sad to see.

I agree with Sue - host the pics somewhere (I use Photobucket) and then post the links here (they won't let you post a pic larger than the BB logo so it's usually easier to just post links).

Today will be a relatively quiet day here - swimming lessons and chores. Bob and I MIGHT go out to eat because friends of ours gave us a wonderful gift of a $100 gift certificate to an outrageous restaurant near here - honestly some of the best food we've ever had! It was Bob's birthday yesterday so this might be a nice treat.

Oh - and if anyone has any cool weather, can you send it here? We're at the second half of October and it's still in the 70s during the day and 60s at night which is WAY too warm for me! I'm wanting some cold weather, so if you have any to spare, I'd be happy to trade. :D

Have a great day all! I left a fresh batch of pumpkin muffins on the counter. They're really good with the pumpkin butter in the fridge.

In that case, I'll get some pictures up on our website later today and just link to them! That will be easier. But a friend of ours is coming over in about half an hour, so I'll postpone posting them until I have some real time!

In the meantime, Riko arrived about 24 hours ago. We went to look at him, and thought not only that he definitely needed rescuing, but that he would work out well here with a little training. His original name was Jericho, but we felt funny with the idea of hollering JERICHO around! So we shortened it to Riko. Yes, he is a beagle AUSTRALIAN shepherd mix. Lovely beagle face, gold and white coloring, about 50 lbs of pure energy but also very intelligent and wanting to please. He had never been on a leash before and is not housebroken OR fixed (he's a year old), so while in the house he is constantly attached to me via the training leash. Outside is where he is allowed to run wild a bit.

But he has the hang of the thing after only 24 hours! He is lying in back of my chair now, calm (which is a first since yesterday!), and has learned that tugging does not do a thing except hurt. "Come" and "heel" and "sit" are already in his vocabulary and he is figuring out 'stay' as well.

Had him leashed to the bed last night, my side, and only had to get up twice with him. Once he wanted to play. No, Riko, wrong timing! Later it was a potty trip. So I think this one will not be too hard at all.

Found out that he has all the hunting instincts of the beagle and all the herding instincts of the shepherd. The two frightened goats found that out this morning, too. He had never been around livestock before and the horses could care less about his herding instincts, but the goats were marvelous practice! I had to call him off, but it was impressive to watch!

That's it for now. We have our first frost warning tonight. Should dip into the low thirties by about 3 a.m. tomorrow morning. Only a couple of potted plants to bring in and everything else is OK.

Gina's biopsy of her thyroid has been postponed from Monday to Friday as the first doctor was uncomfortable doing one which he was pretty sure was cancer. He's evidently only done cysts and fatty deposits before! Poor Gina! Still, she is keeping up her spirits and her grades. Barry and I have an anniversary tomorrow and last night Gina and the girls came over and presented us with a GIANT homemade card that was absolutely lovely!

Barry slept reasonably well, but the prednisone is leaving him shaky when it wears off, -- so much for our 'miracle cure'! I think you are right FoG -- that face mask is going to be necessary. But at least it's not a chemical.

    Not romantic, either, however....sigh....

    God bless you all.
