Yep - the "lawyer" card helps a LOT. They think we're just lone rangers in something like this and often don't realize just how we're strong and have the law behind us.

The oldest one is all jealous and wants to do homeschool too. We're looking into it for her.
The one I'm pulling is upset because she's got a solo violin part in a competition that's coming up, and she's also the publicity person for the drama club...go figure. Drama. Publicity. haaaaaaaa Can't get away from it fer nuthin!

Aw, your poor little violinist Gina! I can understand why she's upset abou tthat - and the drama thing too. Find a home school support group or umbrella group for them, and if they don't have a fine arts program going, you need to start one! You are the perfect get-up-and-goer to do that for them!! Your girls can be their inspiration. Seriously. And then, you can start a newspaper, you can... am I getting carried away yet? :tongue3:

She just started playing violin for the church and she's on the drama team there too, so that should be some consolation to her.

The small town newspaper here just went out of business recently. I know because I wanted to work for them! I'd love to get back into reporting again, but until it can be pretty physical and I'm not up to that right now.

But the kids, THEY have boundless energy and one loves to write and the other loves drama and the other loves cameras...HMMMMM

    And might I add....hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Now you're getting ME carried away!
And being a big encouragement at the same time, which is needed because I'm all growly and stuff with all this going on.

    Thanks!
I'm guessing there are other competitions out there for her. Her orchestra teacher seems surprised at the school, and is probably going to be more than willing to help out with finding stuff for my daughter.

    Good Morning Everyone!

This is Wednesday right? Surely this week can get better before it is over right? I can not get my migraine children well. We've done these things on and off for the last three weeks and poor Chris got it double because his stomach stuff got started up too! Both were out all day Monday and now today, Cass is down for the count and Chris is just now attempting to move. Poor Cade is at school all by his lonesome.

Oh well, I guess I'll keep moving. I need to go straighten up the kitchen, clean off the dining room table so I can pile it full of a sewing machine and run across town and get a load of alterations. I also have a pair of pants to make for Cass and a leotard to make for Jenna this week. Well at least I got the house clean yesterday! Maybe I can keep the sewing mess to a minimum.

Gina, how is it going with your dd this morning?

MK - I'm sorry about the migraines in your house again! That's icky.

I'm not feeling so hot over here either. No migraines (thank heavens) but I have battled a light virus that is now causing my asthma to kick in. I've had to use the inhaler which is causing me to be all jittery and I HATE that. Usually when I get this, the asthma clears up in a day or two but it seems a little worse today. Of course, mine is pretty mild so "worse" is relative (DH has severe asthma and I'm about where he is on a good day - LOL). But it's still annoying.

I need to head up to church later today to scan pictures for yet another funeral but I think I'm going to go tonight after dinner rather than this afternoon. I think logistically it just works better that way. My 7 year old has ballet at 4:45 then we'll come home to HOPEFULLY cooked chicken enchiladas, if my oven will cooperate. :) If it locks the door with those things inside, I'm going to break it, plain and simple.

Migraine kids...do you happen to notice if weather affects them? I tend to be a weather predictor unto myself with mine!

Daughter is home, I called her in sick rather than withdraw her just yet. Since the principal saw fit to point out that they are under the school's care when they are there and stated what he thinks rules are for homeschooling, I think I'm going to have to follow his lead and make sure I follow rules very specifically. I'm a mandatory reporter for their district and I suspect child neglect. I have one kid who had a small laceration to her face and glasses broken while under their supervision, this one was exposed to vile language and they did an insufficient job of stopping it, and she also had two separate physical injuries which were not reported in incident reports, neither were they given medical attention.

You are in Oklahoma, are you not? There are NO rules to homeschooling other than 180 days of schooling so I wouldn't overly worry. IF you wish, you could send a letter of "intent" to the principal to let him know that you are withdrawing your daughter to homeschool. But I'd most likely call HSLDA first just to check the info with them just to be sure.

I'm with Ann. Oklahoma has constitutional guarentees on homeschooling. Call HSDLA, go withdraw her from school and take a letter of intent over to the school board and be done.

Though it would be interesting to see what happened if you complained to human resources that your children had been abused at school....... (though, that gives someone else the power to stop the abuse or not and I have control issues. Out they would come and the school could kiss my.......grits. :D )

My husband, who will be doing the bulk of the homeschooling, seems uncomfortable with jumping into it right now with only a few months to go and not having done this with older kids before.

We're looking into starting it at the beginning of next school year, and trying to figure out what to do now.

My instinct is/was to go for the throat so I made myself calm down and think about what could actually work. So I ended up contacting the person in charge of their Title IV funds/program and informed her of the situation (s) and within 30 minutes I got a call with a meeting time tomorrow, which will include the principal, the administrator, and the person in charge of Title IV, who so far seems to strongly agree with me that the things that have happened aren't at all acceptable. Hubby and I will see what transpires from that meeting and go from there.

So anyhoo, Oklahoma's apparently in the middle of a winter crisis. It's become quickly obvious that they aren't set up to cope with ice or snow. (or children!) A lot of schools were closed yet again, although ours opened back up after being closed since last Thursday. Fun fun fun!

Isn't it amazing what getting ahold of the right person can accomplish? :D

Yep. It's just a shame when a place that is supposed to focus on kids has to be cajoled into giving a hoot.

I just gotta mention this while I'm here...I found CHERRY TWIZZLERS on clearance in the grocery store. I NEVER find Cherry, so I got a bunch and they're almost gone but MAN that is good stuff! It's always strawberry, and I don't like that, so this was just a happy little deal and I'm eating another piece right now. :love2:

All right now, hand over the Twizzlers!!! Its not nice to be selfish!

Oh wait, I'm going to be red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting in just a few minutes. You keep your twizzlers and I'll try not to enjoy this cake to much. (even better since I didn't have to make it!!!)

What is it with all the migraines lately? My wife has developed them of late. She had never had one until a month or two ago. And now mine have come back. I developed them several years ago, but they almost vanished (maybe two per year), but they are becoming more frequent again.

It seems my house is not the only one with these blasted things.

Its the weather. Every time we have a new system off to our west my kids' heads will feel about a day before it gets here. Like today's. Sometime tomorrow it will be raining.

The last couple of years, our weather has been more settled and they haven't had nearly as many as right now.

I had them to a debilitating degree until I took tyramines out of my diet. As in I'd get one and be down for a good week, sometimes without a break before the next one started.

Weather changes trigger them in me, and I can also count on one once a month for other reasons. Cooked green peppers are a major trigger. It's almost a sure bet that if a storm is coming in, I'm going down. They are gradually getting back to being strong and more frequent the longer I'm here in Oklahoma. (they were much less frequent in Oregon and almost non-existent in Alaska)

    Good Morning Everyone!

I've been playing secretary this morning! I found out that our insurance co will cover one sleep study per lifetime, so one had better make good use of it!! Oh, and it better not cost more than $3000 cause that's all they plan on spending. Per lifetime. If want a second one, you gotta die and come back as someone else. Gotta love insurance companies!

And now my life has taken another turn. I gotta go work at the formal shop of a friend of mine whose dh has serious back problems and woke up to not being able to stand up anywhere close to straight. And this is the first big pageant weekend of the season.

Gina, how did yesterdays meeting go? Ya'll get things straigtened out?

One per lifetime? That's INSANE! You can't even get a new machine or an adjustment if needed without a new study, can you?

The meeting went relatively good. It was with the principal of the school, the district admin, and the person in charge of title IV. The issue was resolved to a reasonable degree. The girls WILL be allowed to leave the room and go directly to the main principal if something happens that is not resolved. I WILL be called if a child is injured and told exactly what happened so I can be aware of it and make a decision as a parent.
They also have set up an anonymous Safe and Drug-Free schools survey, which was passed out to the kids yesterday. The title IV lady was extremely helpful in the meeting and seems to be all over this one.
At the meeting I also was sure to compliment them on changes they started after our previous meeting...such as assigned seating in the cafeteria and attempting to have more adult supervision. I encouraged them to continue with those efforts.
The principal of the school didn't seem too happy, but he was pleasant enough. I felt kinda bad...he was shaking when it was his turn to speak. Then I reminded myself of why we were all there and didn't feel as bad. I could kick myself sometimes...I'd probably take a dog to a vet if it broke its tooth biting me...ugh.

So that's how it went. I had a long talk with her and her sister about the school. Hopefully things will go okay for the next few months of this school year. After that she will be out of there permanently regardless...and if anything else happens in the meantime, out of there earlier.

I'm glad it was a satisfactory meeting Gina. Sometimes these things are so hard, aren't they? I'd still contact HSLDA about what you need to do to pull your kids JUST in case. That way you don't need to worry or wait - just pull them.

Well, around here, things have been busy. We had yet another funeral yesterday which meant a lot of funeral prep for me to do and then actually going to the funeral and such. I brought the family food tonight - chicken pot pies, salad and dessert. Unfortunately, this week is the week my oven decided to die completely. So I cooked them all up at church while I was there all day today, which worked out pretty well.

I have to say, I could never be a full time work out of the house mom. Fridays are usually not terrible for me unless we have homeschool group (the first two Fridays of the month). When we have group AND I work, I'm out of the house all day and I'm SHOT! So tonight with DH and DD17 out of the house at worship rehearsal, and DD19 out at the new members' class, I just have the two little ones (9 and 7) who will take their showers and head off to bed around 9 and then I'm crashing. :) We're due to get snow tomorrow but now it's looking like we're not going to get much of this huge storm - maybe about 1-3" is all but I'm still not planning to do much tomorrow. I need a day off!

I understand perfectly Ann. I only actually worked for 2 hours at my friend's shop today and then spend the next two getting Jen and I something to eat and waiting on kids to get out of school (Chris had to make up some work) and I'm exhausted too. I just thought I was being a homebody. Cause I don't like leaving my house!

Gina, your principal is probably in some hot water over the conditions at the school. He may be facing a dismissal if he doesn't get it straightened out soon. You are probably not the only parent complaining. Our middle and high schools go to great lengths to attempt to keep the parents from knowing what other parents are complaining about, all in the name of educational privacy!

I'm glad you got things smoothed over some. Nothing irks me more than to have to worry about what my kids are going through while they are away from me! (yeah, I have the reputation of being "that" parent, but my kids don't get much guff from the admin.)

Speaking of kids!! My Cass found out yesterday (she'd been out sick the day before) that she had been chosen to participate in an academic competition given by one of our local junior colleges. The competition was held today and she won first place in English Literature! She was very excited, cause T had opened his mouth without thinking it through and told her that if she won 1st place he would go ahead and buy her the laptop she's been wanting! LOL Guess he'll be taking her shopping tomorrow!
