From what I read here, the Canadians seem to be claiming that they had Thanksgiving first -

Harvest celebrations have been around a long time. Ever since the very first harvest, about 2,000 years ago, people have given thanks for a prosperous bounty. The first formal Canadian Thanksgiving was held just over 40 years prior to the pilgrims landing in Massachusetts. An English explorer named Martin Frobisher had been trying to find a northern passage to the Orient. He did not succeed but he did establish a settlement in Northern America and he did celebrate a harvest feast. This is considered the first Canadian Thanksgiving.

I don't think Canadians are making any such claim...it is a question of which country,,the USA or Canada that officially recognized Thanksgiving, and clearly Canada did...there is a difference, but does it matter?

    Cheers,

    Jim

PS, England observed Harvest Sunday long before either the USA or Canada, even to this day, but it is a church festivity and not a feast marathon of gluttony.

We ONLY have Turkey for Thanksgiving! I won't touch deer meat!

Starting to feel better today. I had an easy day with the children. Ty went back to sleep until nine and then napped from 2 until just before his mom arrived. Only Max and Morgan afterschool today. Jim's off tomorrow.

I eat turkey weekly. Venison is something I've had, but don't have anyone coming out of the woodwork to give me some. Never had goose and usually eat ham, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I usually have turkey for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I'm not sure WHAT I'm having THIS year. All the kids and grandkids will be here (first time since 1999).

I will have to rent a hall someplace, this house isn't big enough for all the gks to play and I don't have a dining room since Brent moved in...

Am thinking of cold cuts and relish trays, but I will probably change my mind....depends on which hall we get and if we have access to the kitchen.

I know I'll be making lots of 'goodies'!

Checking out for tonight. With all the company, cooking, and papers it has been a long day.

    Pleasant dreams all!

Sorry Blackbird.... I'd go hungry first. I've had deer meat 2 times. Once was from a preacher's wife so I HAD to eat it. The next time was a preacher's Mother and I poured it in the trash. She'd used deer meat in spaghetti. YUK.

Night Sue! Hope you sleep well. Hope I sleep well. Still having too many trips.... to you know where....

We had ham sandwiches. Many, I suppose cook a turkey for a dinner. We don't make a big deal around the dinner table.

Yesterday was pastor appreciation day in Canadian churches, and that was nice for Thanksgiving.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    Good morning all:

I finally got a good night's rest and I feel SO refreshed! Thank you Lord!

Back to school today (both on the 'corner' and home school).

Bob and family are coming for lunch or supper, not sure which. I made a big pot of chili yesterday and put it in the fridge - so I am not cooking today...

Shawna is having her pre-op exam this morning for surgery on Thursday. Brent is making a 'bouquet' of flowers out of colored tissue paper (with pipe cleaner stems) to give to her the day after surgery. He will paint an old clay pot (with styrofoam in the bottom to hold the 'flowers'. I assured him they would be her 'favorite'!

I will post a picture when he is finished.

Thanks Diane for all the great ideas!

    Cruising,

Good morning Lady Sue and Mr. Blackbird! [IMG] Our relatives returned to Budapest, Hungary last night. Boy it was so quiet in here this morning. We had a great time with them, while they were here, but is is good to have our apartment back for ourselves. Hope you folks will have a blessed day! [IMG]

Barnabas, We too hate the silence once our friends or family have gone. We particularly notice it when we have had the grandchildren here.

I hope everyone is having a good day.

    Blessings

Good Morning all. I'm sitting here looking at my house in a bit of disaray wondering what to do first :-/.

It's a nice slow rain. Compliments of the latest hurrican, ts, or is it just a low now. Anyway, I really hope that all of you are hanging in there and are doing quite well. My job got pushed back to Monday. So i'm going to finish my chrocheting and work on getting the house in order.

First i'm going to go read the 100's of fly lady testimonoials i've been fliling away for the past few weeks. I've been so off my game for such a long time it's time to jump back in.

Take care all of you be safe and have a wonderful afternoon. I will stop in to say goodnight. [IMG]

    Hi Wendy,

Sounds like you have a busy day lined up. I did some reading this afternoon and then a little knitting. I would love to learn to crochet. I have been doing my best to ignore the ironing... It is almost time to get ready for prayer meeting at church.

    God Bless

    Sheila

You guys have gone quiet - 13 hours without a visitor in the Coffeee House.

I guess I'll have to pop in and put the kettle and the coffee on for you all ;) .

    Good Morning Roger.

Rob and I are hopefully off to Bristol today. There is an S.P.C.K. Bookshop there which we have not yet visited.

I am taking Rob out to lunch for his birthday, so I won't be around much until later.

    Have a good day,

    Sheila [IMG]

    Good morning all:

Pastor Bob and family came over around 1:00 yesterday afternoon and visited until almost 11:00 last night. We had a very nice time, but it sure was a short night for sleeping! They are leaving today to go back to Kansas. I am always sad to see them go...

It is raining here again. Brent and I both got soaked delivering papers. It looks like we will again today.
