Cost of Government Day

We now each work until July 15th to pay for the cost of government:
This year, Americans have to work until July 15 to pay for the burden of government, more than six months.
In a new report, Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) has calculated that Americans will spend a total of 197 days toiling to pay for the cost of government.
'Cost of Government Day is the date of the calendar year on which the average American worker has earned enough gross income to pay off his or her share of the spending and regulatory burden imposed by government at the federal, state and local levels,' reads the report

Another chilling fact in the article:
From a different perspective, the cost of government makes up 54.0 percent of annual gross domestic product (GDP),'reads the report. 'What's more, the largest tax hike in the nation's history is scheduled to take place at the end of 2012 unless Congress acts to protect taxpayers. If this tax increase is allowed to hit, COGD [Cost of Government Day] could permanently be pushed back into August and beyond'

How is it we became the most powerful nation in history without this kind of parasitic leaching of the people?

Is it not time to identify and vote the tapeworms out of office?

What difference does it make? No matter who we vote into office, they won't be any better than what we have. Politicians are all pathological liars--saying what we want to hear and then doing whatever they want.

It isn't as if the government burns the money in a big bonfire. We get services for our money. Might there be a more efficient way of doing some of the stuff? Yes, but Social Security Administration claims less than 2% overhead costs. Can Blue Cross beat that?

We do need the govt for certain services - ie highways, police, ect.

The problem is excess:
1. excessive pay and benefits (the problem is who determines what is excessive)
2. Double dipping by govt retirees
3. Unneeded (and unconstitutional) give-a-way programs

Jon, an application of plain common sense is what is needed...

Don't stop trying. We need a legal "Boston teaparty" like the 2010 elections. This time for the senate and the executive branch.

We need to get the parasites and alley-cats out of office.

Stop the waste ,fraud, abuse, unecessary junkets, Hawaii useless conferences which cost a million, etc...

Turn off the $$$ printing presses.

Stop the dependence on OPEC.

Tort reform.

We need to return to the private sector of free market competition in everything appropriate (mail delivery, heathcare insurance, transportation, etc...).

It's a paradox, its simple but difficult.

The government is TOO large and too intrusive.

But we can take the first step on November 6th.

Like the Too-Big-To-Fail multi trillion dollar corporate bailouts complete with golden parachutes for the bailees.

Like the 16 trillion dollar debt for the next three generations to try to service and pay off.

Like "Fast-and-Furious" Discount Arms Sales and Services?

Like the almost bankrupt US Postal Service?

People don't become smarter when elected to public office. In the old days people voted for someone who was hopefully smarter than they were. Now days we elect good old boys so we can laugh at them.

I do want op point out something here. I often times here people speak about the debt and how our grandchildren will have to deal with it is we don't. That is ridiculous.
First off there is no way that this nation as we see it today will last two more generations with the out of control spending so that our grandchildren could pay it off. Second we cannot even pay this debt off so rest assured in two generations they could not either.
I am afraid that the amount of the debt we have is being white washed as to its size.
Keep in mind that we are 16 trillion on the books into debt. One trillion is a million dollars a day, every day, for 2739 years. We are 16 times that in the hole. If we could just cut spending to what we take in from taxes and not add any more debt we would have to cut over 1 trillion dollars from spending a year. That would just leave us even. If we wanted to pay off the debt at a trillion dollars a year it would take cutting the spending by over 2 trillion a year and in 16 years to be out of debt. There is no way to cut 2 trillion from our spending.
That is just the tip of the iceberg. The US has already made commitments for future spending which over the next 20 to 40 years which puts our obligations at over 100 trillion and 211 trillion according to Laurence J. Kotlikoff, professor of economics at Boston University.
There is no way to stop what is going to happen to this country because of past and present fiscal irresponsibility and corruption. We will default and become much like many of the third world nations of today. The debt and our collapse is what will bring us into a military state and total loss of what is left of the freedoms we have today. The only way to save this country is if the Lord intervenes and I do not believe the church will do what has to be done for that to happen which is repent.

Bill it is not about being smart. Years ago even the lost had more moral values then many of the claimed church of today. Integrity and patriotism was built into the people from a young age because the bible was respected even among most the lost. Today such is not the case. When I grew up a Pastor had a certain amount of respect even from the lost. Today they have little respect even in the church.
I am afraid that what is being called morality, integrity, and patriotism today is little more then a shadow. Our problem is not education, but spiritual understanding. The real problem is the church. We are no longer the salt and light and so we see this nation on life support. The compromise that the church has succumbed to is destroying our nation.
