In short, what we have here is a near complete failure to respond to the COVID crisis due to our reflex-like tendency to reject new knowledge (i.e., that COVID can be effectively treated) because it contradicts the established belief that COVID cannot be effectively treated. The federal government has failed because it has not evaluated possible treatments for COVID and put its imprimatur on the treatments that are safe and effective. Also, the majority of physicians have failed because they have not put into practice the safe and effective treatments that now exist for COVID. Just as in the time of Semmelweis, these failures have severe and real consequences, including needless death and suffering.

COVID-19 has definitely been woefully mishandled by the medical profession in general. But not because of a Semmelweis Reflex. The coronavirus was novel, meaning there was no established precedent for what might or might not work. No one could legitimately claim there could be no cure.

If anything, there was reason to think it could be treated when caught early, and indeed some doctors found such treatments early on.

The interference and misinformation campaign that blocked so much potential success in treating patients has been entirely politically motivated, was spearheaded by Fauci and the CDC, propagated by the Dem Progressive Left and their MSM, and further aided by Big Tech.

Big Pharma may have played a huge role, but would have been behind the scenes. Communist China brought us this pandemic and may have had a further behind-the-scenes role in squelching early treatments. Their role is unforgivable in any case.
