Please give me the Scripture reflecting K's quotation. </font>
Zechariah 13:9, which reads in KJV "And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God."

Isaiah 1:25 "And I will turn my hand upon thee, and purely purge away thy dross, and take away all thy tin:" is also apposite.

I thought that this refered to earthly trials, and not to what happens when we are finished in this place

Jesus rose on the third day. How does that statement support your argument?

Somebody mentioned that cremation was a pagan ritual. That may be true, but so is embalming.

</font>
Yeah, I was playing with typology. You're right of course as far as what "K" probably meant by the text I cited. But as Scripture repeatedly illustrates, the intent and understanding of the writer need not always be reflected in the application.

The Bible teaches us that Jesus was buried, not cremated.

Yes: I would say that we are all in agreement with this point. What does that mean, in terms of what should be done to our bodies? Are you saying that the Bible teaches us that we too should be buried - that cremation is a sin?
If so, please provide the Scripture.

pastor chet you said; According to the Scriptures, it is a curse for a dead body not to be buried!

Does that mean that the mother's child in 2 Kings who died was cursed? (2 Kings 4: 32-37).

You said; God's way for the disposition of the dead is BURIAL!

Jesus was NOT buried underground. He had an "above ground" tomb (Matt. 27: 58-66, John 19: 40). Is it your position that Christians should be "buried" in "above ground" tombs only?

pastor chet you said; The practice of cremation is pagan -- idolatrous -- heathenish -- and wrong! The practice of cremation was inspired by no less than Satan the devil and his host of demons,...

Are you saying that those who have cremated loved ones are idolatrous heathens? Are you saying that they were inspired by satan and his host of demons at the time they cremated their loved ones? If yes, then at what point did satan and his demons leave those ones? If no, then how can you justify your comment?

I agree that cremation should be avoided (Amos 2: 1). latterrain77

Speaking quite practically, I used to work for a cemetery. Most in this thread have spoken of cremation in terms of their own bodies, not those of family members.
What you would not do to the body of a family member, several family members under severe stress are unlikely to do to your body unless they have specific instructions beforehand from you. And don't put those instructions in a safety deposit box to be opened long after the need for guidance.
Quite frankly, what you now think you would do and what you would do under severe stress are often VERY different. I have seen it many times in my former, unlamented ;) career. So plan ahead. It is also good stewardship.

Why did you quote this passage?
This is merely one verse in a passage dealing with several transgressions.

I don't follow your thought process. I am not saying you are wrong, but rather, I am asking you to elaborate on your point.

I have instructed in my will that I be cremated and my cremains scattered on a mountainside SE of my home. Then as the grandkids enjoy the beauty of creation, they can remember their "Gumpaw".

While burial or entombment was typical of culture in the Biblical eras, I see no scripture that would refute my desire.

Hi Baptist In Richmond. Thank you for the comments. The Amos 2: 1 verse sets up the punishment that Moab received, as described in Amos 2: 2-3, which occurred because Moab "burned the bones of the king of Edom to lime." So, "burning the bones of the King of Edom" (cremation) brought terrible punishment upon Moab.

Did Moab do wrong because he "burned bones" in general (i.e. cremation) or because he burned the King of Edom's bones specifically? I think it's the former. But this is not enough evidence to reach a conclusion. More is needed. Where? From the Biblical examples!

The LORD, our greatest example, had an "above ground" tomb - which is typical of Jewish custom (Matt. 27: 58-66, John 19: 40). Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, etc all in a tomb (Genesis). David (1 Kings 2: 10), Solomon (2 Chron. 9: 31), Josiah (2 Chron.35:23-25), Hezekiah (2 Chron. 32: 33) and many more.

King Hezekiah's burial is very telling about this subject. 2 Chron. 32: 33 say's; "And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the chiefest of the sepulchers of the sons of David:...

The phrase "chiefest of the sepulchres of the sons of David" indicates that burial is not only the chosen practice for the "sons of David" but also hierarchical (Hezekiah was among the greatest Kings of Judah).

Christian's identify their "heritage" with the lineage of David and every believer is himself a KING (1 Cor. 4: 8, Rev. 1: 6). Christ was from the lineage of David (Matt. 1: 1). If the sons of David were all buried, and none of them cremated, then it seems logical for Christian's to follow the standard.

Based on this, I have reached the conclusion that cremation should be avoided. Thanks! latterrain77.

I asked you for your thoughts, and you responded with a well-thought-out, well-written response with Scripture to support your beliefs. You have given me a very gracious reply.

Thank you very much.

Did the Bible teach us that God burned Moses?
God's people such as David, Abraham, Sarah, Issac, Jacob, Joshua, John the Baptist, Stephen -- were they burned according to the Scriptures?

What God does is, by definition, perfect, the best, what should be done. While there may be (and have been) reasonable statements from each side about what might be "allowed". There is not a better example of what is the best solution than to look at what God did. He BURIED Moses. I came to this discussion thinking it did not matter one way or the other but, this one verse has convinced me that this is the best of all possible ways because God did it. Other ways may be OK but this is perfect.

Thanks, Askjo , but don't get the big head I will still argue with you about other stuff. :D

Let's get something straight:

JESUS WAS NOT BURIED! HE WAS INTERRED IN AN ABOVE GROUND VAULT.

More to the point, the location of Jesus' burial was not even permanent. His body was laid out on a prep table that was used for preparing his body (spices, anointing, etc). Because ht ethe lateness of the Sabbath, the work had to be put off until Sunday. Had Jesus not ressurrected, his body would have been prepared and moved to a permanent above ground vault for approx 1 year. Afterwards, his bones, would have been placed in an ossuary, which would most likely have been interred above ground in a tomb.

That's fine. Have you stipulated that God bury you, or have you succumbed to something less than perfect?

And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

You say Jesus wasn't buried, my Bible says he was. I'll believe the Bible
