How sad that he loved and understood creatures so well and did not know the Creator... :tear:

His death is so sad. My kids loved his shows.

I guess he's not an atheist any more, but it's to late. I pray his family will find Christ.

    Not Sure

Funny I could find several "Steve Irwin" myspace accounts. One even said he did not want children. One said his last log in was 6/27, another was 8/23, one site even said that Irwin was a Scientologist, and there are others. I don't know if any of them are really his. I would also add that I have heard him talk about God giving him gifts (etc). In fact tonight, on CNN, they are airing a 2004 interview Mr King did with Irwin. In this interview, if I am thinking about the correct one, he mentions that.

Of course this does not mean he was saved or anything (many lost people believe in God). However I don't think I would believe anything on a MySpace account unless it shows some sign of being "offical".

    Do you have a link?

Edit: I found the link myself. I don't think it is an offical page. Find the page referenced < deleted link - LE>

    AIG On Irwin

Answers In Genesis founder Ken Ham has written a blog on the passing of Steve Irwin. As he makes clear Irwin did believe in evolution and had been exposed to material written by AIG. I wonder what he thought about it?

    Transcript

    From CNN.com

KING: What, Steve, is the gift?

IRWIN: The gift. Firstly, Larry, I'm a wild life warrior. A warrior is someone who is trained or engaged in battle. My battle is conservation. So I'm a wildlife warrior. Anyone can be one. But I have a gift. God put me on this planet with a mission. My mission is to educate people about conservation.

Now of course that does not make him saved (etc) but I think it shows he was not an atheist. For transcript of interview click here.

One can believe in the theory of evolution(I don't) and be saved at the same time.

Thanks, Martin, for doing some research. I deleted the link you posted because of some questionable content as far as BB standards, which is why I did not post the link to begin with.

I was saddened to hear of his death, one of the guys I work with went to school with him, his outlandish personae was 100% real.

I am saddened to think of his family and their grief , at this time.

Apparently Steve managed to pull the barb out .....it may have been better to leave it in but it would have been an instinctive reaction.....

Yes, I agree with that. There are Christians who believe that God was in charge of it. Your beliefs about Creation may be right or wrong, but they don't make you saved or lost.

I know that we are all sitting here wanting desperately for Steve to have been saved, but we will never know for sure.

I think the best thing we could do as a group of BB members who are all obviously fans of his is to pray for the family left behind....their spiritual status and their peace of mind/heart.

It probably wouldn't have helped to pull it out or leave it in. The poison would have killed him anyway if he had left it in.

Hey mods! I know this is news thread and length is getting up there, but can this thread please stay open until around about this time tomorrow? Had an image of response to Steveo's death come in email for neighbours tonight (image taken outside Australia Zoo). Sent reply asking them if they minded if I uploaded it "here and there". Will check email first thing when I get home tomorrow night. Thanks :)

    Croc Hunter...

One thing it really should be reminding us of is to take the enemy seriously. As far as I could see, this guy loved to kid about seriously dangerous situations.

    He's not kidding anymore.

It really should strike us to look at ourselves, and our own lives.

It is sad news, but hardly surprising.

First of all, that was kind of his point of his entire life, to show that snakes/crocs/whatever wasn't "the enemy", so even though I know you're trying to be figurative and stuff, I don't think that's the most respectful thing you could say.

Secondly, I've heard alot of people state this same kind of "it's not surprising", and "he had it coming", and any number of things, but this situation was not like the calculated risks he was known to take, it could have happened to anybody. If you have ever swam in the ocean, it could have happened to you. He was not provoking or kidding or anything, he was simply swimming close to the ocean's floor and swam right over a stingray that was buried in the sand, he didn't even know it was there. If he knew it was there, I'm quite sure he would have known how the stingray would have reacted and would have avoided any lethal barbs through the heart. He wasn't even filming anything dangerous, he was filming stuff for a kids show for his daughter at the time.

As I mentioned last night, this image arrived in my email box from our neighbour's family in Queensland. Photo was taken at Australia Zoo. People have left tributes written on khaki shirts.

Billsey, you just need to see farther then mate :)

Joking around while you are working with a giant "Salty" that could easily take your legs, an arm and head all off at the same time with one bite (or maybe leave them and take the rest of you with one bite) is just part of Aussie culture (despite what some of these new-fangled politically-correct psychobabblist types might try and say ;))

Just about every occupation in Oz is the same. Take the Beaconsfield mine collapse back in April this year. Look up some of the lines flying backwards and forwards between the trapped men and their rescuers and mine management while they were still underground (Eg the two men saying they were in a two star motel, and they were the two stars).

Or even my job as taxi driver. We get a "problem child" fare and for most of us it's straight back to the rank to joke around with the rest of the boys how bad it was.

I think we've all got a bit of the Larrikin in us Down Under :) The rest of the world thinks we are crazy, we KNOW the rest of the world is crazy

Steve was great example of a larrikin, would be great if he knew the Lord.....I'ld love to get Home and swap crocs vs drunks horror stories with him.

    I think that's a respectful thing for you to say . . .

I pray that people will sit back and analyze their life style(s) out of respect for the deceased.
