D.D. or Th.D. First?

    Which come first in a title, D.D. or Th.D.??

    And would it be in a different order if the D.D. is earned or honorary??

    Larry,

    I think the protocol is to list the degrees in the order that they were received. If the PhD was first then the ThD and then the DD, I think it is Rev. John M. Smith, PhD, ThD, DD.

    I could possibly be wrong and will gladly submit to one who has more accurate information.

    If it is from Oxford, D.D. . . . is top dog (even above M.D.).

    From the US schools, Th.D. would be the top dog listed . . .

    In the USA, I believe precedence would be M.D., J.D., Ph.D., Th.D. . . . D.Min?

    D.D. from US schools is usually bought (or given honorary . . . and has no or little true status). IMHO

    You always list degrees in the order you received them. If you follow the normal course it will ascend, but often people chose to get another doctorate and therefore you would list the degrees after your first you have earned even if they are lower, eg. BA MA PHD DD DLitt or BA MPhil PHD MBA JD or BA MDiv ThD DD etc.

    Talking about it to a mate one night and his response was "I'll call myself John Smith I.C.H. A.M.L. A.M.N. A.I.L. - That is I can have as many letters after my name as I like...." :D
